Four Nokia-branded smartphones tipped to arrive in Q2 and Q3 2017

HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the license to release Nokia-branded smartphones for the next 10 years or so, has already confirmed its presence at MWC 2017 where it plans to unveil at least one new product.

The first Nokia-branded smartphone to be revealed by HMD is likely to be the long-time rumored Nokia D1C. However, aside from this device that will be announced in February 2017, HMD is said to have worked with supply chain makers in Taiwan to develop an additional four new smartphone models.

The second and third waves of Nokia-branded smartphones will be launched in the second and third quarters of 2017, industry sources claim. Reports suggest that these phones will sport display sizes ranging from 5- to 5.7-inch with support for QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) or full HD (1080p) resolutions.

HMD Global has already ordered the displays for these Nokia-branded smartphones from companies like LG Display, Century Technology and Innolux, while FIH Mobile will be production partner.

As mentioned, the Nokia D1C will be the first smartphone launched by HMD Global this year, and it will come in two variations based on the amount of memory and display size.

The more expensive model will cost $200 and will pack a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display, along with 3GB of RAM. The cheaper version will be available for just $150, but it will include a smaller 5-inch HD (720p) display and just 2GB of RAM.

All five Nokia-branded smartphones are expected to be released globally, but their prices will vary depending on country and carrier.
