Essential Phone could be finally released this week (at least on Sprint)

It's been almost three months since the Essential Phone was announced, but the handset can't be bought yet (although you can register for it if you're in the US). Fortunately, it looks like the device will finally be released later this week.

According to a leaked screenshot revealed on Reddit (seen above), Sprint plans to start selling the Essential Phone on August 18 - this Friday. Interestingly, August 18 is a full week before a "First Look" event that Essential is allegedly planning for its phone, although this may be about the unlocked version of the handset, not the Sprint model.

For now, it's not clear how much Sprint will ask for the Essential Phone. Nevertheless, we assume the price will hover around the price of the unlocked model: $699.

Most likely, Essential - a company already valued at $1.2 billion although it hasn't shipped a single product - will share more details about the availability of its smartphone in the coming days. Once released, the handset should be available not just from Sprint and Essential's website, but also via major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.

Just because the network is lousy, doesn't mean it's not news worthy. There are around 50 million Sprint subscribers after all.

My sero-p plan and my 10 years with the company doesn't match your sentiment and I get a way better offer than you with true unlimited, not your prioritized and throttled crap. Oh and before you start being a fan boy of whatever carrier you have, it's unlocked so buy the phone and put it on your network but enjoy our reviews before you can buy it. I have never had a problem with Sprint except during the iden switch over... But even then I get great coverage in shentel and drove from NY to Kentucky to Miami, FL with streaming all the way. I had little issues with buffer because I buy the right phone that works best with it

Maybe they're buying time, and it really means August 2018. ;)

They haven't even sent out review units yet? Wow. This is worse than the poor LG V20 launch.

Makes my decision better because it's between this, the pixel and the Nokia 8
