Alleged Sony Xperia Z5 press photos leak out, 23 MP rear camera visible

Alleged Sony Xperia Z5 press photos leak out, 23 MP rear camera visible
Earlier this week, Sony confirmed that it would announce "a smartphone with greater focus" on September 2 at IFA 2015. We're all expecting this new smartphone to be the Xperia Z5, possibly joined by an Xperia Z5 Compact.

Before Sony actually announces the Z5, it seems that we can already take a look at some press images of the handset. According to XperiaBlog, these images were posted on a Sony Mobile social media channel, though it appears that they've been quickly removed. Fortunately, we can still see them.

One of the Z5 press images shows that the new Xperia has a 23 MP rear camera. Most likely, this will use the same fast hybrid auto focus system that debuted on the Xperia M5. Only the rear and sides of the Z5 can be clearly seen in these new images, but we assume that the handset's front isn't too different from that of the Xperia Z3+.

Like the Z3+, the Sony Xperia Z5 is expected to sport a 5.2-inch display, though it's not clear if its resolution is of 1080 x 1920 pixels, or 1440 x 2560 pixels. An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, and 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM should also be included. Needless to say, the Z5 will be water-resistant, and it looks like it will have at least three color versions. We'll be here to let you know more about Sony's upcoming flagship smartphone as soon as official details arrive.

I still love that design. A subtle curve sides make it look better. I want an Ultra tho

I would like to see the front panel to see if they got rid off those hideous bezels.

a S-t-B ratio of 71% is not bad at all... as long as they don't go backwards, that amount of bezels are ok for me... specially when getting stereo front facing speakers... However what still bothers me from this design is the glass back. they need to change it.

I don't like glass back either. But Z5 premium comes with all metal.

I'm expecting a lot from the Z5 Plus. The 4K display will be awesome as long as it doesn't kill battery life.

How do you know it will be glass back? Z5 premium will be made of metal

The bezels are smaller than the S6.

lolz S6 has no bezels whatsoever. After HTC, Sony is the king of bezels in the phone industry.

it seems light from the Diamond Pentile Amoled screen has been quite severely damage your eyes. http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-S6,Sony-Xperia-Z3,Sony-Xperia-Z3/phones/8997,9425,8764 With 70.48% it means Galaxy S6 overall has bigger bezels than Z3/Z3+ From the engineering point of view, what has been done by Sony is a remarkable achievement. Because they can keep it slim, compact & durable even when there is a big battery, stereo speakers etc. For me even the Edge series still not good enough to be given the title as bezelless smartphone. Because Sharp beat the crap out of them when it comes to bezels. Next time try to say something that makes sense if you want to bash Sony, maybe something like this "The Hybrid AF & 6 element lens is pretty much useless if they don't fix their camera SW"

That is simply wrong. You can easily tell by looking at the two phones that Sony obviously has much bigger bezels than the S6. I don't know how PA calculated screen to body ratio. but when you divide the screen size by the size of the phone: S6 => 5.1 inches(screen) / (5.65*2.78) = 0.325 Sony => 5.2 inches / (5.76*2.83) = 0.319

Or you can easily tell your math is wrong by looking at it - where you divided inch by inch^2 to get a unitless ratio lol I can't even imagine a 32.5% or 31.9% screen to body ratio :P Do the math again with by calculating the screen 'area' (from the diagonal & 16:9 aspect ratio) - you'd get exactly those numbers Genza mentioned.

It wasn't mean't to be exact ratio, because they don't state exact size of the screens, only diagonal size. However, comparing screen for screen and size for size, ratios of these show that S6 has higher ratio than the Sony.

Oh yeah, 'they' do give you 'exact' screen size by citing the diagonal & aspect ratio. That's a one to one mapping. You don't wanna do the math - I get it lol

Every tech website says the S6 has 70.7% while Z3 has 71%. It may appear smaller because the device is smaller and rounder, but it most certainly is not.

I don't know where you are getting your numbers, but PA states that the S6 has 70.48%, not 70.7%. Which is right? PA or "every tech website"? or neither? I don't know. I trust none of these sites, because most of these sites will state anything to get clicks and what not.

Screen to body ratio: g4 71.88%, z3 71.00%, z3+ 70.88%, z3c 70.64%, s6 70.48%, m9 68.52%, iphone 6 plus 67.71%, iphone 6 65.71%. Conclusion: z devices have some of the smallest bezel in comparison to the most known brands and considering the internal components size that are inside z devices while maintaining a slim profile (z3 7.3mm, z3+ 6.9mm) it is a great achievement. the reason for why some might think that z devices have "big bezel" is because its design is more square rather then round in comparison to the others. on top of that, z5 devices are not out yet and it is not really possible to judge by this low res pic. with that said, it looks like its not going to have bigger bezel then z3.

Besides, why are you all of sudden talking about screen to body ratio. Screen to body ratio is whole different subject. HTC and Sony phones have been known to have big bezels irrespective of screen sizes.

How did they come to those figures? Did they use the with times the height, without considering things like rounded edges? I think my Z3 is fine. Not that the stereospeakers are that great, so a mono setpup, using as much internal space as that stereo system, would probably be better. Not that I think any samsung has that. I also disslike that unlike my K Zoom I waste screen estate with onscreen keys, while there is a bezel below that screen that surely without too much hassle could have been turned in to a capacitive area with three permanent buttons.

well I actually made a spreadsheet of Screen-to-Body calculations AND I considered the round edges of phones, making an educated guess of each radious to know how much or how little to take out of the calculation... The end results vary vary little, so having a square design like Xperia devices makes almost no impact on this Ratio... the only real issue is the illusion it gives to the user that the device seems to have more bezels... When I made the switch I was at first against on-screen buttons but I've come to like it, specially when you can turn the screen in any direction and the buttons will always be in a comfortable position. also for most of the apps that requires it the buttons will hide.

Too bad that .1 extra screen real estate and the front facing speakers make the phone huge. The GS6 despite the poor ratio is barely bigger than the iphone 6 while the Z3 is way way way bigger.

AnTuTu, you might want to rethink what you wrote. The Z3 has a better screen to body ratio than the S6. Stop being an ignorant fanboy

thank God a new sensor... about time, cuz they've been milking the same sensor for 4 generations and still is far behind competition, hopefully it doesnt take 4 more generations to get the processing image algorithm right too

The sensor was never the problem with Xperia's cameras... like you said, the image processing and algorithm is... but you are wron stating that they are "far behind competition"... most of the criticism comes from biased media and reviews such as PA.... The Galaxy S6 (and siblins) has the best camera currently, there is no way around it but Xperia is not too far behind, specially when you know how to use Manual mode properly
