A Galaxy S11 with a centered punch hole now looks even more likely

Earlier this year, Samsung’s Galaxy S10 borrowed the Galaxy Note 9’s horizontal camera layout and just twelve months earlier the Galaxy S9+ adopted the Galaxy Note 8’s dual-sensor setup. Now, new information indicates the Galaxy S11 is about to borrow one of the Galaxy Note 10’s standout design features.

A centered punch hole that's also quite a bit smaller

Industry insider Ice Universe has today echoed earlier rumors about Samsung ditching the Galaxy S10’s selfie camera layout. He says “it is certain” the Galaxy S11 is going to adopt an improved version of the Galaxy Note 10’s Infinity-O display, which means the next-generation flagship will make use of a centered punch hole that’s noticeably smaller than Samsung’s existing implementation.

The source in question didn’t elaborate any further but it has been suggested recently that the new selfie camera layout will be accompanied by a slightly taller aspect ratio and even smaller bezels. This, in turn, will allow Samsung to drastically increase the diagonal of displays without severely impacting each phone’s size.

Recent reports indicate the Galaxy S11+, Galaxy S11, and Galaxy S11e will feature 6.9-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.2-inch curved-edge displays respectively. To refresh your memory, the 2019 Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10 boast 6.4-inch and 6.1-inch curved-edge panels while the Galaxy S10e uses a 5.8-inch flat screen.

Big camera upgrades on all three devices

Accompanying the changes mentioned above should be some important upgrades on the rear. Specifically, the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11+ are expected to feature quadruple-camera setups that use upgraded sensors across the board.

Leading the way could be a high-end 108-megapixel main camera that uses pixel binning technology to produce noticeably superior 27-megapixel or 13.5-megapixel photos. Such a setup would result in low-light photography improvements, too. The second camera expected to grace the Galaxy S11’s rear should be an all-new ultra-wide-angle shooter while the third will probably be a dedicated Time-of-Flight sensor that captures accurate depth data.

Lastly, the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11+ should feature a drastically improved zoom camera that’ll adopt a periscope-like lens. This should enable 5x optical zoom which, when combined with the data from the other sensors, could permit 10x or even 15x hybrid zoom. As for digital zoom, a minimum of 50x is to be expected.

The triple-camera Galaxy S11e will likely borrow the 108-megapixel main camera and the ultra-wide-angle alternative. It’s unclear which of the other two snappers it’ll ditch.

5G paired with the Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865

Powering all three Galaxy S11 flagships will be the recently announced Exynos 990 or the upcoming Snapdragon 865 paired with 5G. In some markets, however, versions of the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11e with only 4G LTE support are expected.

This should be coupled with a minimum of 128GB and 8GB of RAM in the Galaxy S11e and 256GB with 12GB of RAM in the premium Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11+ devices. Unsurprisingly, Android 10 and One UI 2.1 will be present straight out of the box.

In regards to batteries, recent certification listings and reports indicate Samsung is planning some pretty huge upgrades. The smallest model, the Galaxy S11e, is expected to replace its predecessor’s 3,100mAh battery with a huge 4,000mAh cell. Likewise, the Galaxy S11 may ditch the 3,400mAh pack featured inside the Galaxy S10 for a noticeably higher capacity of 4,400mAh. The battery expected inside the Galaxy S11+ remains a bit of a mystery but Ice Universe previously teased a capacity of almost 5,000mAh.
