Specs and images of 12.9-inch Apple iPad Plus leak
According to a post seen on Weibo, Apple will be calling its large-screened tablet the Apple iPad Plus. This would be in line with the naming scheme started with the Apple iPhone 6 Plus phablet. We are about to unleash on you a number of specs and images of this device, but we caution you to take this all with a grain of salt.

Based on the post, the Apple iPad Plus will feature a 12.9-inch screen with 2K resolution. The slate will be thin at 7mm, and will weigh less than 700 grams. That compares with the 6.1mm thickness of the smaller  9.7-inch Apple iPad Air 2, and the latter's weight of 437 grams. The battery, at 11000mAh, has about a 50% larger capacity than the cell used on the current top-of-the-line Apple tablet. Protective cases will be produced for the iPad Plus.

While you're taking that grain of salt, the Weibo post adds that Apple will be 86'ing the Apple iPad mini 3 and replacing it with the Apple iPad mini 4. It will also keep the Apple iPad mini 2 available as a lower cost alternative. In addition, the company is said to be adding a new 4-inch iPhone to the mix despite denials from the supply chain last month that such a device was being planned. There is no word on when all of this is expected to take place.

You don't say? What gave it away - the big side bezels or the big side bezels?

hahaha a desperate move to compete against Surface Pro lineup by Apple.

This is going to fail for sure. No one wants a blown up iOS version in an enterprise..!!

Desperate ? The larger screened iPad was rumored since late 2012/early 2013 , that's nearly 2 years ago
Plus this article never mentioned whether the larger iPad will carry iOS or OS X (most reports are constantly swinging between the two OSes)

"this is going to fail for sure" - I wonder, as the complete fanbot that you are, how many times you've said that about other Apple products / services?

You said the iPhone 6 was gonna fail too. What happened? also, how can Apple be desperate to compete with the surface pro, when it doesn't sell?

Blown up iOS? Well this is bound to fail

I read comments like yours and keep going back to sales figures and trying to figure out how Apple seems to remain on top with these "bound to fail" devices every quarter.

Stop embarrassing yourself because this was too easy.

Exactly, every single time since 2007.

When I mean bound to fail, I mean in Apple's terms. Of course they'll sell a couple of millions but that doesn't mean it will be up to what they expected (cue iPhone 6 Plus)

Besides, if Apple does release this tablet with blown up iOS without any improvement over an the one on the iPad air, Apple's inventive mind will be questioned by many and this might affect future sales

Sorry for the double post

They're actually selling much more 6 plus's than they expected. Especially in Asia.

I never said anything about the iPad sales dropping. In fact, I think the iPads have been solid pieces of tech so far, better than any android equivalent, but thinning rationally if this bigger iPad came with a blown up version of what's on the iPad air, it's bound to fail compared to it's predecessors.

I know Apple sales have increased by each year's release but that's because the devices have significant improvements over the predecessors. A bigger iPad doesn't sound too convincing. (Unless it has some kind of advantage like stylus or optimised OS)

iPad series remain the best selling tablet on the market. Let me know what other tablet outsells the iPad. When you find out, come back and post a link.

Seems weird to me they call the high end iPad Plus/iPhone Plus, instead of Pro like the Mac Pro/MacBook Pro. Just me, I think iPad Pro/iPhone Pro sound better.

iPad Plus seems better and gives it continuity in the naming segment of the company. MacBook Air/iPad Air although MacBook Pro/iPad Pro sounds like it could work too.

Finally a rumor that makes perfect sense !

Finally this year we will not have to wait to summer for an Apple event !

On the other hand it's really bad that future Apple products aren't a top secret anymore...

Without any special software modifications from regular ios 8, I can't see this thing taking off. Knowing apple, it probably still won't have mouse, full keyboard support, and USB OTG. Useless in my opinion for anything productive.

I was really hoping the iPad *Pro/Plus* would have run full OSX.

It'd be nice to have an OSX device that can replace both your tablet and laptop.

Far easier to add features to touch optimized iOS than bother porting OSX to a different canvas and CPU architecture.
