All first gen HTC Desires to receive Gingerbread in Q2 or Q3 of this year
Share:
According to the guys at CNET, who cite an "HTC representative", these three first-gen Desire phones will receive Android 2.3 between a month and two after the release of the HTC Desire S.
If we take into account that the HTC Desire S is scheduled for an April 18 release, this would mean that the owners of the three first-gen Desire handsets will receive Gingerbread sometime in late Q2 or early Q3 of 2011.
However, it's worth noting that the folks at CNET claim this is the timeframe when HTC will make the update available to the carriers of these three handsets, and if this is the case, it's far from certain when exactly the end customers will taste the Ginger flavour on their first generation HTC Desires.

Does that include the T-Mobile G2 then, since it's essentially a Desire Z?

You may like to know we at Tech Hog posted this story regarding the EVO and Gingerbread:http://www.techhog.com/editori
al/exclusive-htc-has-gingerbread-already/ then after receiving a follow up tip we posted this story:http://www.techhog.com/news/update-2-3-on-evo-before-christmas/ I think it's safe to assume we can expect Gingerbread in May on those devices but I believe the EVO will once again be the first in the HTC line of phones to get Gingerbread first, much like it did with Froyo.

Gingerbread is almost like Froyo. I'm waiting for Ice Cream. With time frame in the news, Ice Cream SDK will be available and a stable version of Cyanogen may be ready too. Personally, I prefer eating ice cream to gingerbread too.
