AT&T announces its new $50 prepaid unlimited talk, text, & web plan
Starting June 26th, AT&T’s $50 per month unlimited talk, text, and web nationwide GoPhone plan will be available to consumers, which constitutes a savings of more than 20 percent. Additionally, the plan also provides unlimited text and instant messaging to Canada, Mexico, and 100 additional countries. Specifically, this new plan option is open to new and existing GoPhone customers who happen to own feature phones. However, you can still get the same unlimited plan if you boast a smartphone – but you’ll need to select one of three data package options that range from $5 to $25.
Lastly, AT&T will also be bringing along the messaging oriented $59.99 Pantech P7040p on the same day that their new prepaid unlimited plan is launched.

That's actually good news. Nice to see a GSM company working hard to up their prepaid game.

Does this apply to specific phones? Would one be able to buy an unlocked iPhone and couple it with this $50 plan?

I would only think that AT&Ts network will detect that it is an iPhone and force you to pay for one of their prepaid smartphone plans.

About time... I used to hate explaining the $60 unlimited talk and text prepaid plan, when the Boost display was right next to it for $50 unlimited everything.

Ya, I think that I'm going to stick with my Sprint 2yr contract. Only way At&t will get me is if they offer a phone like the EVO Shift on pre-pay and charging about $45 a month for everything included unlimited smartphone data. Oh, and the phone has to be fairly cheap as well.

Classic sign of a Cheap *SS, Hey I want a premium smart phone with the works but I only want to pay 45 a month and maybe a hundred for the phone. I am classic person who lives above my means. Oh and I want it from a major carrier. If you want the works u pay for the works.

Or maybe he's a person that doesn't want to pay out the ass for ridiculous service on a crappy network. Maybe you should pull your head out of your own ass.

You might as well wait for that Motorola phone thats coming to Virgin Mobile this summer. It's going to have a 4.1 inch display, 480 by 800 pixels, 1ghz snapdragon processor and full stock android 2.2 which I assume will be upgraded to 2.3.
And if you don't know, Virgin Mobile runs on the same network as Sprint, Sprint owns them. So you'll be getting the same coverage as you would and would only pay 40 dollars a month.

Because Sprints 3G speeds suck and you can't roam with virgin mobile like you can with a contract sprint phone.

Glad to see that AT&T is getting competitive with GoPhone pricing.!

wow i was just about to order an unlocked iphone 4 cause i heard about this
14. jgmcmaster (unregistered)
you can use any att/unlocked smartphone with the exception of blackberry the only thing to keep in mind is their 25 dollar data plan for smart phone only includes 500 mb unless they are updating that too

I recently switched from an iPhone on AT&T to an LG Optimus V (a full Android smartphone) on Virgin Mobile. I was paying AT&T $75/mo for unlimited data and 350 voice minutes on a postpaid plan and now I'm paying Virgin $25/mo for unlimited data and 300 minutes on a prepaid plan and I love it. The phone surprisingly good (some things not as good and some things actually better than the iPhone) and the coverage and reliability on Virgin/Sprint is considerably better where I live (more bars everywhere I've gone and not a single dropped call). A $50 prepaid plan on AT&T is a step in the right direction, but it's still twice as much as I'm paying Virgin and without offering any full smartphones - it's really not a very competitive offer.

DId anyone miss the fact that ATT is buying Tmobile and Tmobile already offers you unlimited talk, text, web for $50 a month, and uses GSM transmission for there network!
Did anyone care to ask what speed this so called "unlimited" data will be 4g 3g 2g aka edge or even slower than 56kbps?
Care to tell me where will this new prepaid coverage actually cover? just like there current prepaid you don't have access to all towers ATT operates on just only 1/2.
Tmobile throttles you on data over a certain amount but you still get to use ANY smartphone you wish for no extra cost and you can get 4g/3g speed if it carries the aws band. This is just an attempt by ATT to look good in front of the FCC and say SEE WHERE LOWERING OUR PRICES, for now, HAHAHA to get the T-mobile takeover approved. once/ if the take over happens expect ATT to change all that prepaid pricing again and you will be paying more as they will now consider service on a Tmobile tower even though they own it to be the ATT extended prepaid network, which cost an additional $25 per month. this is greedy business 101 here people!

That would be a good response if T-Mobile's was actually unlimited. I suppose if you consider 100 mb of data from T-Mobile unlimited then you are good to go. Sure, no overages, but if you're using a smart phone give it a day and you're on edge.
19. Rekrul (unregistered)
So what's the definition of "unlimited"? 10GB?
20. CoolStrongMan (unregistered)
It will work this way. It is a truly unlimited data package with no limits of usage of internet but only for none-smartphones, for example lg neon, samsung soltice etc. For those phones u can get unlimited talk and text + unlimited interner for 50 dollars, that how it is.

I've been with Simple Mobile for a while now,i think there service is awesome, haven't had any dropped calls, or anything, getting 4g speeds, the $60 plan is by far the best deal out there.
26. dedrick (unregistered)
not true just pay for the plan pop the sim card in your iphone and it will work i know cause im using it now trust me that simple
27. Bubba1234 (unregistered)
You could always use an unbranded smartphone.. Find one with AT&T's 3g bands and your good to go!

Do you know with Net 10 for $25.00 amonth you get 750 minutes for talk, text or picture messaging? Net 10 is the way to go. ATTis too pricey, they need to start being competivive.

Hello guys, I need help with this. I got this plan and Instead of $50 I put $60 and now the extra $10 goes less by some cents. The plan works, but when I want to check my acc. balance it says 8.50 and it will expire on 08/01/12 so I'm like super confused, after the 10 dollars expire will it affect my 50 dollar plan ? Will it start charging negative? & where does that extra 10 dollars go ? Please help me out. Thank Youu.

Other sources report that the new plan will be $50 for unlimted all, but 2GB cap on HSPA data.
