Apple is preparing two new Apple Pencil models for a first-half 2027 launch alongside the next iPad Pro lineup, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The refreshed styluses will replace today's entry-level and Pro Pencils and could finally address one of Apple's most glued-together, hard-to-repair accessories.
Two new Apple Pencils are already penciled in for 2027
According to Gurman's latest Power On newsletter, Apple is working on two Pencil refreshes tied to next year's iPad Pro update. The first, internally labeled B582, updates the budget Apple Pencil that currently charges over USB-C. The second, B632, refreshes the Apple Pencil Pro, the haptic and squeeze-gesture model that debuted in 2024 alongside the M4 iPad Pro.
Gurman has a strong track record forecasting Apple's hardware plans well before official confirmation, so this is worth taking seriously despite being over a year out.
Would a repairable Apple Pencil change your upgrade plans?
Why the 2027 timing makes sense
Apple has a habit of pairing new Pencils with new iPads, and the timing tracks with our earlier coverage of the 2027 iPad Pro, expected to stay largely internal. Refreshing the accessory line still gives the launch something new to point to.
There's also a compliance angle. Apple is reportedly working to meet EU rules around replaceable batteries, something our earlier coverage found the iPhone will likely sidestep thanks to its battery longevity. The Pencil doesn't get that same exemption, and today's models are notoriously glued together inside, so a redesigned battery system could finally make it repairable.

Samsung S Pen users can sit this one out, since Samsung's stylus already offers replaceable parts. Apple would just be catching up here, not innovating past it.
Who should wait for the next Pencil refresh
If you're due for an iPad Pro or Pencil upgrade, there's a real case for waiting out the 2027 cycle. Artists and note-takers using the Pencil Pro stand to benefit most, since haptics, squeeze gestures and Find My support already make it the more capable half of Apple's stylus lineup. Everyone on the base USB-C Pencil gets a smaller but welcome refresh.
Finally, a Pencil worth fixing
I'd genuinely welcome a Pencil that isn't such a hassle to repair. Apple's current styluses are about as disposable as accessories get, and if EU pressure is what finally forces a more serviceable design, I won't complain about the motivation. This won't be flashy news when it lands, no dramatic new gesture is likely here, but a Pencil that lasts longer without needing a full replacement is the kind of quietly useful upgrade I'd take any day.
