We all love it

Recently, I asked you "Which is the wide foldable you're after?" and I gave you several options to choose from—not just Samsung's aforementioned Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple's upcoming iPhone Ultra (the first-ever foldable iPhone), but similar wide foldables by Huawei and Xiaomi, too.

And the votes paint a picture that'll make any Samsung exec happy:

• The iPhone Ultra — 13.02%
• The Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 — 5.71%
• The Huawei Pura X Max — 12.7%
• It all depends on the price — 26.67%

People are cautious

The second place in our little inquiry is occupied not by a smartphone but by all those users who are financially cautious.

"It all depends on the price [of the foldable phone]", say over a quarter of voters. We're dealing with premium devices here. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,900, while its bigger brother, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, starts at $2,100.

No wonder people want the best bang for their buck.

The rest of the competition

Apple's iPhone Ultra is just above 13%, while the Huawei Pura X Max (a device that was released well before Samsung's new foldable) is just below 13%. The least amount of love goes to the potential Xiaomi Mix Fold 5.

That's unsurprising, as this is the phone we've heard the least about in recent months.

Will this trend continue?

I wouldn't bet on it. Let's see what Apple has in store—September is around the corner and the new iPhone family (yes, including their first-ever foldable) will be unveiled.

As long as Apple doesn't sabotage itself with an unrealistic price (ahem, the Vision Pro is cool and all, but the prohibitive $3,499 price tag drew more laughter than customers), the iPhone Ultra has a real chance of becoming a sensation, too.

Only then the real Apple—Samsung clash will take place and a clear winner will emerge. Apple's iPhone Ultra may not be a "perfect" foldable (first-gen gadgets tend to be problematic), but Cupertino's biggest asset is its fanatically loyal fanbase. I can already see that they're reaching for their credit cards.
