The Galaxy S27 Ultra likely just broke one trend Samsung fans actually liked

Galaxy S27 Ultra weight and thickness figures have just leaked, and it appears Samsung has stopped shaving grams off its biggest phone, at least for now. The phone is said to be 7.9mm thick and 218g, which is 4g heavier than the Galaxy S26 Ultra and exactly what the Galaxy S25 Ultra weighed, though still well under Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Ice Universe puts the Galaxy S27 Ultra at 218 grams

The numbers come from Ice Universe, who posted them on X this morning with no extra context: just the phone's name, 7.9mm and 218g. According to a new report that picked up the post, that thickness doesn't include the camera bump, which would match the S26 Ultra's 7.9mm body exactly.

Ice Universe has been leaking Samsung hardware for years, and his track record on weight tends to hold up well. Last year, we covered his early claim that the Galaxy S26 Ultra would weigh 217g, and the phone ended up shipping at 214g.



It should be noted that this contradicts part of an earlier leak from Lanzuk that we covered, which pointed to a lighter Galaxy S27 Ultra with a bigger battery at the same thickness.

The Galaxy Ultra weight cuts hit a pause

For anyone holding the phone day to day, 4g is about the weight of a sheet of printer paper, so you're very unlikely to feel it. What's more interesting is the direction, since Samsung spent the last two generations trimming the Ultra down.

Here's how the Ultra line has moved since the Galaxy S24 Ultra, going by our own specs pages:

• Galaxy S24 Ultra: 233g.
• Galaxy S25 Ultra: 218g.
• Galaxy S26 Ultra: 214g.
• Galaxy S27 Ultra (rumored): 218g.

I'm guessing a bigger battery would be the likeliest reason for the extra grams, since a larger cell has come up in several Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks already, though nobody has tied the two together yet.

The bigger story for rival owners is how far ahead Samsung still is on weight. Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 249 grams, which makes it 31g heavier than even this rumored S27 Ultra, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL specs put Google's big phone at 226g.

If you're carrying an iPhone 18 Pro Max, this leak doesn't change much for you, since Samsung's big phone was already the lighter one and will likely stay that way. Pixel 11 Pro XL owners are in a similar spot, with the gap shrinking from 12g to 8g, which isn't something anyone will notice in a pocket.

What a heavier Galaxy S27 Ultra means for S26 Ultra owners

If you're on a Galaxy S26 Ultra, the weight alone isn't a reason to upgrade or to skip one, since the two phones would feel nearly identical in the hand. For anyone shopping right now, our list of the best Samsung phones is a good place to compare what's already out.

Four extra grams I'd happily carry

Personally, I don't think this is worth losing sleep over, and I'd even call it the right move if those grams end up going toward a bigger battery.

Still, I'm hoping Samsung doesn't treat this as permission to let the Ultra drift back toward the 230g range. I'd really love to see it land the bigger battery and keep the weight right where the S26 Ultra left it, which is the one combination that would make the next Ultra an easy recommendation.
