Samsung's Android XR-powered smart glasses are still expected to be released before the end of this year. The Galaxy Glasses got their moment in the sun back in July during the latest foldables unveiling event. With two and a half months left in the year, many are looking for a November release of the wearable device.
Samsung's Android XR-powered glasses could be released as soon as next month
The Galaxy Glasses have leaked, and SammyGuru has revealed some specs and designs for the smart glasses. Let's start with the weight of the glasses, which comes in at 41 grams with a standard lens. That is equivalent to the weight of two AA batteries. Prescription lenses will weigh a little more.
This figure is actually good news since renders back in April revealed a weight of 50 grams. Based on the leak, it appears that the Galaxy Glasses will be lighter than most of the competition's glasses. Keep in mind that these glasses will not have a display. Instead, they rely on AI, built-in cameras, speakers, and the user's connected phone.
Here are some important specs for the smart glasses
Samsung's Galaxy Glasses will be powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor and are equipped with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The 12 MP camera can record 3K video at up to 30fps. The smart glasses feature two open-ear speakers and four microphones. The latter will be used to make phone calls and to speak to Gemini AI.
Will this be enough battery life for you?
When dealing with wearables, battery life is so important. The Galaxy Glasses will deliver up to nine hours of battery life, and with the charging case, that will expand to as long as 72 hours.

To run Galaxy-specific features, users will need to have a recent Galaxy S, Z Fold, or Z Flip phone running One UI 9 or later. Watch features require a Galaxy Watch running Wear OS 7 or later. The glasses will work with basic compatibility on other Android handsets and iPhone models.
These glasses will compete with the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Also competing in the same space will be Apple's first generation of smart glasses, which are also expected to be released without a display sometime next year. The whole smart glasses-as-a-smartphone-replacement will gain credence once augmented reality glasses become widespread. AR projects computer-generated images (CGI) over a real-life feed to create the illusion that you're staring at your phone all day.
The most famous pair of AR glasses was Google Glass, which was released with a $1,500 price tag and was made for developers, early adopters and tech enthusiasts. The world wasn't ready for Google Glass and some of the issues that doomed Google Glass, such as not including an indicator to warn bystanders that they were being video recorded, are supposedly being addressed in new models.
