There's also Tecno—even though it might sound exotic to US-based users, this brand often comes up with such clever or outright impressive devices that we can't help but report about it.
Like the bezel-less Tecno phone we told you about recently—it looks stunning! Now, Tecno is literally traveling around the world to prove a point. And the point is: Tecno phones come with amazing skin tone rendering.
The brand is partnering with acclaimed photographer Angélica Dass for the "100 Portraits of Becoming" project, which has just kicked off.

There'll be five sets containing 20 portraits each from five different countries around the world. The project starts with Kenya. Then, Dass will go to the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Brazil for the additional 80 portraits.
Dass takes advantage of Tecno's Universal Tone: that's the company's AI-powered photography technology designed to make smartphone cameras represent different skin tones more accurately and naturally.
Universal Tone is built around a color card with 268 different skin tone patches, which Tecno uses alongside a large collection of skin tone data to train and fine-tune its image-processing algorithms. The system analyzes skin tones and adjusts them to avoid the common problem of some complexions appearing too bright, too dark, overly warm or otherwise inaccurate in photos.

It also considers lighting, color temperature and the surrounding environment, while its portrait processing can adapt to regional aesthetics and preferences.

The first chapter
The first chapter of Tecno's "100 Portraits of Becoming" takes place in Kenya, featuring 20 people who are challenging conventional ideas about success, opportunity, careers and belonging.
Alex Mutua Muli stayed in his community and co-founded a farm export business to help local farmers reach larger markets, while Alexander Odhiambo built a software company with friends that grew into a business serving African markets. Jelimo Cheboi, meanwhile, co-founded GirlSkate Nairobi after finding little space for women in the local skateboarding scene.
Together, their stories highlight people who are choosing their own paths, creating opportunities and expanding what is possible for themselves and those around them.
