Samsung Galaxy S26 base model likely not getting the charging speeds you were hoping for

Brace for disappointment in the charging department if you're thinking of getting yourself the base model of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.

Some time back, a report came in claiming that the base model of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series would get an upgrade to its charging speeds. That rumor, as it turns out, is most likely false, and the phone is still going to lag behind its mid-range counterpart: the Galaxy A56.

Galaxy S26 charging speeds staying the same

According to a new leak, which is being corroborated by another renowned industry insider as well, the base model Galaxy S26 will still ship with 25W charging speeds. Earlier rumors claiming that the base model might see an upgrade to 45W are almost certainly incorrect.

The Galaxy S26 also lost out on a camera upgrade according to reports, as Samsung is trying to cut manufacturing costs to combat the recent industrywide price hikes for components. Though the charging speeds will remain the same, the battery is apparently going up from a capacity of 4,000 mAh to 4,300 mAh. Which is the same battery capacity for the canceled — or postponed — Galaxy S26 Edge.

Is this enough to put you off of the base Galaxy S26?

Galaxy S26 Plus and Galaxy S26 Ultra fare better

However, the Galaxy S26 Plus and the Galaxy S26 Ultra are fortunately going to ship with much better charging speeds. The Galaxy S26 Plus will retain its predecessor’s 45W charging, though there will allegedly be no increase in the 4,900 mAh battery capacity that we got with the Galaxy S25 Plus.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is actually seeing an improvement here, and is going up to 60W of wired charging from the 45W charging speeds found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The S26 Ultra is also reportedly going to ship with faster wireless charging speeds: 25W over its predecessor’s 15W. Battery capacity is seeing conflicting reports, with some claiming that the phone will stick with 5,000 mAh, and others saying that it might go up to 5,200 mAh.

Just get the Galaxy S26 Ultra?

The base model iPhone 17 is selling like crazy, because it is genuinely excellent value for your money, especially now with the 120 Hz “ProMotion” display. It also charges slightly faster at around 30W when paired with the right adapter. The Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus seem almost like a bad purchase by comparison.

For some, the Galaxy S26 Plus is almost pointless, given the upgrades that are going to be hitting the base model. This has left me, and several others, wondering whether the S26 Ultra might be the only new Samsung flagship worth buying in 2026, especially if budget is of no concern.
