Galaxy Buds user? You might want to avoid this Samsung Good Lock module for now

A fix is coming in One UI 9, but depending on your phone, it might take a while.

Galaxy Buds user? You might want to avoid this Samsung Good Lock module for now
Tinkerers should be used to bugs, yet this one is mostly benign.
Hey, are you using Galaxy Buds with your latest Galaxy phone? If yes, then you might want to steer clear of RegiStar, one of the newer Good Lock modules.

The reason for that is that a bug with the tool is getting rid of a legitimately useful functionality within the Settings menu of your Galaxy phone and will prevent you from easily accessing controls for your Galaxy Buds.

The issue

When you connect a pair of Samsung's own earbuds to your Galaxy phone, a neat shortcut to their respective controls page appears right at the top of your phone's Settings menu. That's potentially saving you some time and doesn't force you to comb through Bluetooth or sound menus to change specific settings for your earbuds.

A user on the Samsung forums has discovered that tampering with the RegiStar module a bit too much and rearranging your settings breaks a handy shortcut feature for your Galaxy Buds. In particular, it disappears for those who tinker with RegiStar.

Another user revealed that the bug played out differently for them, with the Galaxy Buds shortcut now appearing at the bottom of the Settings page and not the top, as it should.

Of course, that's a bug that shouldn't happen, and Samsung has apparently vowed to fix it in the fast-approaching One UI 9 software update, which should be announced July 22 and arrive on compatible devices in the coming months.

When it comes to bugs, this one is more of a benign issue that doesn't cause any damage aside from a mild inconvenience to users.

RegiStar: What is it?

But what is RegiStar?

It's a Good Lock module that lets you rearrange the items in the Settings menu, quite an intriguing functionality that no other Android phone has, as far as I am aware. Aside from that, RegiStar also lets you assign a double-tap or a triple-tap gesture for your phone, which is kind of an odd placement for that functionality, I have to admit.

The module also lets you assign different shortcuts for long-pressing the side button, as well as view a history of what device setting was changed on what date. Overall, quite a nifty little module that expands the unprecedented customizability of Good Lock.

In fact, if you don't know what either Good Lock or RegiStar, you shouldn't worry that you will experience the bug we've discussed above.

A fair price to pay for options

I don't like bugs. Nobody does.

But this one is a fairly benign one that you have to go out of your way to even experience in the first place.

That's why I wouldn't hold it against Samsung, which has done a fantastic job at expanding the customizability of its One UI interface with the Good Lock suite of modules, which is kind of a unique proposition among all other Android manufacturers.
