Google has announced an extended repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, along with an extended warranty program for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
A step to counter the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL display issue
The Pixel 9 series was introduced last year, and after a few months of use, many users began reporting a vertical line appearing on the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL models. Google has now confirmed that a limited number of units from last year's Pro models have display-related issues. As a result, the company is offering an extended repair program for affected devices.
As part of the program, Google will cover the repair cost of eligible Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL devices for up to three years from their original purchase date. To be eligible for the repair program, the vertical line on your device's display must run from bottom to top. The company will also offer free repairs under this program for display flickering issues on the Pixel 9 Pro.
It's worth noting that your device may become ineligible for the program if its display is cracked or shows signs of other hardware issues or liquid damage. In such cases, you can either use the standard warranty coverage or pay out of pocket to fix the vertical line issue on your Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL.

The big G has also announced an extended warranty program for Pixel 9 Pro Fold units that may "experience issues affecting their functionality." Although the company didn't specify what types of issues the program covers, it's likely related to the display since the warranty details mention that a device can be disqualified if its display shows any signs of liquid or hardware damage.
Google will replace affected eligible devices for free for up to three years from the date of purchase. Similar to the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 XL, you can either opt for standard warranty coverage or pay out of pocket to have your 9 Pro Fold repaired if it isn't eligible for the program.

A very uncommon issue today
Vertical lines appearing on smartphone displays is not something we're hearing for the first time. There have been numerous complaints from users experiencing vertical green line issues on the OnePlus 8, 9, and 10 series. Some Samsung Galaxy S20, S21, and S22 series users have also reported facing a similar problem.

However, as you can see, this issue was mainly common among smartphones released a couple of years ago. Devices using newer OLED panels rarely encounter such problems, but some units of the Pixel 9 Pro series appear to be exceptions. Although Google hasn't clarified the exact cause of the issue, I guess it's likely related to a hardware fault that occurred during the OLED display's manufacturing process, possibly a loose flex cable that connects the OLED panel to the motherboard and other important components.
All that said, both the extended warranty program and the extended repair program began on December 8. Repairs for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, as well as replacements for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, are covered under a 90-day warranty. You can visit Google's support options page to check if your device is eligible for the program and to see what repair options are available to you.
