Gboard gets smart replies for Facebook Messenger, Allo, other apps
Google's Gboard app is getting smarter and more functional every week. With recent additions, such as various improvements in custom GIF creation, Gboard is steadily making its way to becoming the most well-rounded keyboard app not only on Android but iOS as well.

Now, Gboard is gaining the ability to send smart replies in various messaging apps, including Allo, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and others. XDA reports that the feature is still in development and requires Gboard to have access to your notifications. Setting up the feature requires expanding a notification that has a quick reply box and tapping the suggestion to enable the feature in Gboard’s autocomplete bar.

The smart reply feature works in the aforementioned apps, but it also supports a couple more, as discovered by the folks over at XDA, who performed a teardown of the latest update for Gboard. Here's the full list:

  • Android Messages
  • Facebook Messenger
  • Facebook Messenger Lite
  • Google Allo
  • Google Hangouts
  • Snapchat
  • WhatsApp
  • WeChat

The feature will roll out widely once development on it is finished.

Wish Samsung default messaging app would allow GBoard Gif plugin and also Samsung allow Android Messages to have RCS instead of me using Samsung messages in order to see RCS.. smh.

Google is on it with the Gboard keyboard. I just wish my Google account would work.

Anyone else having issues with the latest update? Words seem to stop being typed, then all of a sudden will appear. Several second delay inside the app. I am running the June update on my Pixel 2 XL!
