Samsung is working on two very exciting foldables, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and a sliding phone. Industrywide complications are making the release dates of these phones unpredictable, however.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is a novel, innovative foldable flagship for those who want the best of the best from Samsung, but it isn’t without its problems. Samsung plans to address some of those issues with the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, as well as complement the Galaxy S28 release with a very special sliding phone next year, according to some reports.
However, as the tech industry continues to grapple with rising costs and component scarcity — problems that are expected to persist well into the next decade — Samsung has reportedly had to change plans.
Galaxy Z TriFold 2 possibly delayed

According to a new post (translated source) from a reliable source who compiles various trustworthy tip-offs into one report, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is very likely to get delayed. This is mostly because of the aforementioned pricing crisis that is currently affecting the global tech industry.
Originally planned to come out by the end of this year, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 might now get so delayed that it might even have to come out after a secret sliding smartphone that Samsung has been working on. On the plus side, the TriFold 2 will see noticeable improvements over its predecessor.
For starters, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will be slimmer and lighter than the first TriFold model. This was par for the course, in my opinion, as every year’s foldable flagships see similar refinements, and so will the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra this month.

Reserve the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Z Flip 8 at Samsung
Samsung has just opened its reservation campaign, allowing you to reserve your next Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Z Flip 8 device. The official store is giving you a $30 reservation credit, plus a chance to win one of 10 $500 gift cards.
A more noteworthy improvement is the claim that the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will have almost identical width across all three sides now. This should make for a much sleeker and more pleasingly uniform experience over the first TriFold phone.
Lastly, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will also be using a new hinge. This is apparently why Samsung will be able to make the phone lighter and slimmer than its predecessor.

Samsung’s secret sliding phone nears launch
One fascinating takeaway from the report is that the sliding phone that Samsung has allegedly been working on according to various sources is nearing completion. With the delay of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, the sliding phone might actually make it to market before the TriFold 2 can.
This is a phone with a rollable display. So, instead of having to choose between two sizes — folded or unfolded — users can extend the phone to make it exactly as wide as they want it. It is an absolutely fantastic concept, in my opinion, and videos of such displays in action get me very excited to see such a phone be mass-produced.
When can you get either phone?

According to some reports, Samsung might try to launch the sliding phone alongside or near to the release of the Galaxy S28 series next year. It would complement the S28 lineup incredibly well and give the industry a very novel new form factor to try and compete with.
However, as mentioned above, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 might come out even after this sliding phone. If Samsung decides to go that route, then that means that we’re probably looking at a summer release in 2027 for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 9 lineup.
I’m partial to the sliding phone myself

Personally, between the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and the sliding phone, I would get the latter for myself. Don’t get me wrong, the TriFold phone is fantastic, and I’m sure that its successor will be too.
However, it’s way too unwieldy for everyday use, in my opinion. I can just get a tablet if I want that much screen real estate. But being able to control precisely how much of said real estate I need? Now that’s a very exciting phone.
