Ray-Ban Meta owners were left with mixed feelings after an email in which Meta announced a series of new features, along with the Meta One Premium paid subscription for the Conversation Focus feature.

Conversation Focus feature and free limits

Conversation Focus is a pretty interesting feature listed under the accessibility group for Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. It uses the microphones and loudspeakers inside the glasses to amplify the voice of the person directly in front of you.

The feature has been rolling out gradually to various markets and countries since its announcement back in 2025, and now, with the Version 26 software for the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, it's subject to restrictions and new charges.

The Meta One Premium subscription costs $20/mo

According to Meta's help page, the Conversation Focus feature is now restricted to three hours per month for free users. The Meta One Premium subscription, which costs $20 per month, unlocks 15 hours per month, or around 30 minutes per day.

Even though Meta One Premium is described as a plan that uses the company's "premium AI features," it doesn't seem that this accessibility feature is one of them. Yet, the company has decided to limit its usage and charge extra. But it's not all bad.

Muse Spark AI and other bells and whistles

Meta's next-generation AI model arrives with Version 26 of the software, along with another cool feature called Dynamic Photo. This mode will take a burst of photos and suggest the best out of the bunch, much like other similar features work.

There's also support for Instagram instants and WhatsApp voice chats on the Ray-Ban Meta glasses now, as well as a new battery-saver mode.

14 new languages join the translation capabilities of the glasses, including Greek, Dutch, Thai, Russian, Turkish, and Mandarin, and the Ray-Ban Meta now has Japanese and Korean language support.

The free monthly usage business model

The new subscription plans and limits are bizarre, to say the least. Meta is limiting and charging for an accessibility feature that doesn't use AI, while the Muse Spark is not subject to the same paywall.

According to Meta, "No subscription is required to use AI glasses." The company, however, has been moving toward a business model with usage restrictions, much like other LLMs and AI agents.

If you need to use a similar feature but don't want to pay monthly, Apple's AirPods Pro 3 model is an option. The only requirement is an iPhone, no subscription needed.
