Another Galaxy Tab S12 series leak just revealed its official release is almost here

Both Galaxy Tab S12 models have cleared another certification before the official launch.

We’ve been seeing the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra in various certification lists and databases as their premiere comes ever closer. After getting their Bluetooth SIG certification earlier this week, now the upcoming tablets have showed up in one more list.

Galaxy Tab S12 shows up on Google’s Play Console certification list

The two Galaxy Tab S12 models in all their versions have appeared in the latest update of the Google Play Console supported devices list. Similar to the recent Bluetooth SIG certification, the new listings include eight versions of the two upcoming models.

The Galaxy Tab S12+ bears the codename gts12pwifi for its WiFi version with model number SM-X840. There’s also a 5G option, which has the gts12p codename and four model numbers—SM-X846B, SM-X846E, SM-X846N, and SM-X848U.

The higher-end Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra follows a similar pattern, with the gts12uwifi coming with model number SM-X940, and a 5G variant with codename gts12u and two model numbers (SM-X946B and SM-X946N). The numbers match earlier leaks in various certification databases across the world.

When are the Galaxy Tab S12 tablets launching?

Samsung hasn’t been very forthcoming when it comes to sharing details about the launch timeframe for its new tablets, except for a rather unhelpful comment during the company’s latest earnings call. At it, we learned that the Tab S12 devices and the Galaxy S26 FE are coming in the second half of the year.

Of course, unofficial information about the launch has been far more abundant. That’s why we can safely assume the new tablets will launch during the IFA Berlin tech show, which is scheduled for the first week of September. In fact, earlier rumors claimed the premiere date could be exactly a year after the Galaxy Tab S11 premiered on September 4, 2025.

Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra rumored specs

We already saw renders of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra as well as the front design of the two upcoming models. While those are unofficial and don’t reveal a lot of information, it appears that the two models will be more or less identical to last year’s tablets and all their predecessors from recent years.

Rumors about the specs of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra are not very different and suggest we’re getting practically the same tablet, but with a refreshed processor. Both models are expected to run on the Dimensity 9500 chipset, which will give them a nice performance boost.

Otherwise, the Ultra is expected to keep the 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and the same 11,600 mAh battery. As for the Plus, we should get a 12.4-inch screen, paired with a 10,600 mAh battery. Neither of the tablets is expected to get a charging speed improvement either, so we’re most likely getting the same 45W wired charging as in the earlier models.

This lack of improvements has prompted users on Reddit to wonder whether the Galaxy S12 Ultra will be worth it enough in comparison with the year-old Galaxy S11 Ultra. One user suggested the premiere of the S12 Ultra will be the best time to buy last year’s model at a discount because of the minimal differences.

Honestly, it’s difficult to argue with this advice, even though the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus may be a little too old already. As Samsung is launching a Plus model every other year, buying a two-year-old tablet may not be the best idea.

Stiff competition

I have never truly understood Samsung’s premium tablets. I’d rather get an iPad Pro M5 for a similar price, which is probably the best-performing tablet money can buy. If I wanted to avoid Apple, I’d go for something like the OnePlus Pad 3, which has great specs, a larger battery, and a much lower price. Of course, if you just want the best Android tablet, regardless of the price, you’re unlikely to find something better than the top-tier Galaxy Tab.
