ZTE Axon 7 starts getting Android Oreo beta in the US
ZTE announced back in December that the Axon 7 will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo at some point this year. Although the handset maker did not provide customers with a timeline, previous reports claimed the update may hit the Axon 7 as early as April.

We're happy to report that ZTE might indeed keep its promise since an Android Oreo beta program is now in full swing in the United States. As a matter fact, the first beta build has already been rolled out to some ZTE Axon 7 users in the country who are part of the beta program.

Although we don't have a full changelog of the first Android Ore beta update for the ZTE Axon 7, it appears that the company has included the latest January security patch in the build.

However, by the time the final version of the update will hit the ZTE Axon 7 in the US, Google will surely release a few more security patches for Android phones. While we still don't know when exactly the update will hit the Axon 7, it looks like ZTE is hard at work trying to release it sooner rather than later.

So I had my Axon 7 for 14 months, that's the longest phone I've ever had be my primary phone. Needless to say I loved that phone and it was perfect for me. IMO ZTE needs to keep their costs low for the Axon 8, they need to keep the same chassis design, update the screen by deleting the capacitive buttons below the screen and giving it a 18:9 screen layout. With their cost savings in not designing a whole new phone put 128 GB and 256 GB options, stick a Snapdragon 835 in it, 6 GB RAM and upgrade the camera. Then update the colors, give us a black/gunmetal one and a blue variant. I'll buy one no questions.

It should have a Snapdragon 845 if coming out this year or later

I agree, and it needs the 845 with 6 GB ram... also did you have an issue with the DAC not working with other applications like poweramp?

and it would be a great phone if it uses the same camera found on the Galaxy s7 or Google Pixel 1 in order to keep costs down but still remain almost flagship.

Still love my Axon 7!!! It is one of the best phones I ever owned!!!! Happy to see ZTE still supporting the Axon 7 with official Android updates in a timely matter. If the Axon 8 keeps it's price under $600 CAD with a 18:9 display I would buy one in a heartbeat!!!! If its too expensive, will look at other alternatives such as Honor 7x, Moto G6 or any other phone with a 18:9 display.

Axon 8 should keep same design except a new 6 inch 18:9 Screen buttons) + water resistance. Then we can expect the usual upgrades: Snapdragon 845 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM or 6 GB Ram + 128 GB ROM Hybrid Dual Slim Slot 3500 mAh battery Improved front and rear cameras. (Can remain single cameras to keep cost down, AI can achieve portrait mode)
