Xiaomi launches Mi 3 in India; device to be Flipkart exclusive
Earlier this month, we told you to expect the Xiaomi Mi 3 to be officially released in India. We can now tell you that the deed has been done. The Mi 3 will be offered exclusively from Indian online retailer Flipkart, starting July 22nd for 13,999 rupees ($233 USD). Registrations are now being accepted by Flipkart through July 21st. The next day, only those who have registered will be allowed to buy the model on launch day.
The Xiaomi Mi 3 is the manufacturer's flagship handset, offering a 5 inch screen with resolution of 1080 x 1920. That works out to a pixel density of 441ppi. A quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU is under the hood, along with the Adreno 330 GPU. In other words, this is far removed from one of the lower priced models that Xiaomi sells via the use of Hunger Marketing. That is when a small number of low priced units are sold, usually selling out within seconds.
Returning to the Xiaomi Mi 3, you will find 2GB of RAM on board, with 16GB of native storage available. The back camera is a 13MP snapper with an aperture of f/2.2. That should be wide enough to get some decent pictures taken, under low-light conditions. The front-facing camera weighs in at 2MP. The 3050mAh cell should keep the lights on, and Android 4.3 is pre-installed, along with MIUI 5.
Other Xiaomi products coming to India later this year are the Xiaomi MiPad, a tablet that just launched in China a couple of months ago. The 7.9 inch slate is the first on the planet to be powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 chip. Also expected to come to the country is the Xiaomi Redmi Note, a value priced phablet, and the low-end Xiaomi Redmi 1S. No dates were announced for the launch of those models in India.
