Music recognition app Shazam has announced today that it has joined up with Snapchat and will now show the name of a song playing nearby when a Snapchat user presses on the Snapchat camera screen. With the new Shazam integration with Snapchat, users will be able to access Shazam content and send information about artists and songs to family and friends as Snaps.

Shazam has been around forever and was featured in one of the first App Store ads run by Apple in 2008. You can view the ad by clicking on the video at the top of the story. The app has been downloaded over one billion times and has hundreds of millions of active users. The app itself is used 20 million times a day.

This is the second significant announcement made by Snapchat today. Earlier, we told you that the messaging app will now allow users to group chat with up to 16 people at the same time.

Snapchat's parent company Snap is expected to go public in a huge IPO early next year. Snap is trying to throw everything but the kitchen sink into the app in order to drive advertising revenue to it.
