Sketchy iPhone 11 rumors point towards some huge disappointments

Massive battery, slow charger, and no storage upgrades

Today’s leak doesn’t reveal anything about Apple’s new naming scheme but it does specifically mention the ‘Max’ version of the iPhone 11. The latter will allegedly include a 3969mAh battery which is pretty impressive for an iPhone and also significantly higher than the 3174mAh capacity supported by 2018's iPhone XS Max.

The higher capacity should arrive paired with support for reverse wireless charging if previous reports are to be believed. The expectation was that Apple would also throw in a more powerful 18W fast charger but this latest piece of info suggests the Cupertino giant will actually be sticking with its ridiculous 5W charger.

While on the topic of change, or in this case the lack thereof, previous rumors pointed towards a minimum of 128GB of internal storage alongside the usual 256GB and 512GB options. However, it’s now being reported that Apple’s existing 64GB option will be retained for another year. This is pretty disappointing if true because 128GB of storage is slowly becoming the standard in the mid-range segment. Flagships such as the Galaxy Note 10, on the other hand, now offer a minimum of 256GB.

A new color and an upgraded rear camera system

Moving over to the external side of things, today’s rumors corroborate the presence of a Lightning port on all iPhone 11 models and zero changes to the front panel. Previous reports have indicated plans to upgrade the Face ID system but this latest leak suggests otherwise. Also mentioned is the lack of an in-display Touch ID solution, although this was never expected anyway.

The company’s controversial triple-camera layout on the so-called ‘iPhone Pro’ models is mentioned and apparently improves upon Apple’s previous camera systems “aggressively.” There will be an updated 12-megapixel primary sensor and the whole setup “works in coordination in an RGB mode,” although the nature of this feature hasn’t yet been revealed. As previously reported, the square module will protrude slightly but the individual cameras will be even thicker. The independent sensors will feature a “special coating” that promises “better visual integrity.” 

Completing the iPhone 11’s physical setup will apparently be a rear glass panel that now boasts a “matte texture” but not Apple's usual ‘iPhone’ branding towards the bottom. The premium models are expected to be available in a total of four colors including Space Gray, Gold, Silver, and a new dark green option which is the “most beautiful color this year” and similar to the Sony Xperia Z5’s Green finish.

A new 10.2-inch iPad but no upgrades to the iPhone SE line

Aside from everything mentioned above, the so-called Foxconn worker also mentioned a few other details. These include the lack of 3D Touch which has reportedly made this year’s iPhones slightly thinner and a potentially upgraded Taptic Engine system.

On totally unrelated notes, Apple reportedly has no plans to introduce any updates to its iPhone SE line but the existence of a new 10.2-inch iPad that’ll replace the 2018 iPad 9.7-inch is corroborated again.

As for Apple’s next-gen iPad Pro models, no specifics were mentioned other than the fact that they will be announced at a “later” date rather than at next month’s hardware event.
