Orange Google Pixel 4 leaks in hands-on video and photos

Last Monday there was no Pixel 4 news but on Tuesday Google’s flagship received FCC approval and by Wednesday Best Buy had started promoting the phone. Thursday’s headlines were dominated by the first Pixel 4 hands-on video while a bunch of features were detailed on Friday. Now, another leak pair of leaks has appeared.

Black, white, and a bright third color

Spotted first by Ben Geskin, one Weibo accounted posted a photo recently of three Google Pixel 4 units laying face-down on a table. The devices in question provide yet another clear glimpse at Google’s redesigned rear panel and show off the range of colors that are planned this year.

The Pixel, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 were all made available to purchase in Black and white/silver upon launch in addition to a third color option. The first-gen model, for example, was sold in Really Blue white its successor settled for a noticeably more subtle Kinda Blue option. Last year’s Pixel 3 switched things up with a Not Pink option but in 2019 Google could return to its roots.

As shown by the leaked photos and a hands-on video, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will be sold in the usual black and white color options. But rather than selecting a neutral third color, Google has chosen a rather bright orange-like finish that’ll most certainly catch people’s attention in public.

The marketing names Google has planned for the Pixel 4 color options are yet to be revealed but something quirky is most likely planned. The black option, on the one hand, could be branded as ‘Deep Black’ while the white version could go by ‘Very White.’ As for the orange color, that could be branded as ‘Almost Coral,’ ‘Simply Orange,’ or something funny like ‘Not Apple,’ although the latter could get Google into legal trouble with Apple.

What can be expected from the Pixel 4?

Google is largely expected to continue its lead in the mobile photography landscape with the Pixel 4. It's adopting an all-new dual-camera setup on the rear that's expected to include a 12-megapixel main sensor and a second 16-megapixel snapper paired with a telephoto lens that'll support 8x zoom. Accompanying this will be an upgraded Night Sight mode that'll be speedier than the current version and permit clear pictures of the sky at night. Additionally, a new feature called Motion Mode that allows action shots to be captured with blurred backgrounds and a moving object in the foreground is rumored.

All of this will be coupled with Audio Zoom, which automatically adjusts the audio focus when a user zooms in or out, Live HDR, which does exactly what it says on the tin, and bgi improvements to wide-angle selfies. The latter will be made possible by a new algorithm that'll correct distortion in photos without warping faces or buildings.

Regarding the internal side of things, Google's Pixel 4 should ship with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 on the inside alongside a minimum of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable internal storage. Stock Android 10 straight out of the box will undoubtedly be part of the package too.

The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are expected to go official at an event in early to mid-October although the exact date hasn't yet been confirmed. Pre-orders should kick off immediately after with the regular Pixel 4 rumored to be retailing at $799 and the Pixel 4 XL at $899. Lastly, both devices should begin shipping the following Friday.
