U.S. launch party for the OnePlus 7 is nearly sold out
A few days ago, we told you that the OnePlus 7 would be unveiled at various launch parties on May 14th. The parties are being held in London, New York, Bangalore, and Beijing, and tickets to attend are priced at £16 / €18 / $20. The event is also being streamed on the OnePlus YouTube video channel. With all of the excitement over the OnePlus 7, TechRadar reports that one of the launch parties has already been sold out.
The locations and times of the events are as follows:
- Printworks, London – UK | 4 PM BST, May 14
- Pier 94, New York – US | 11 AM EDT, May 14
- BIEC, Bangalore – India | 8:15 PM IST, May 14
- Yanqi Lake, Beijing – China | 2 PM PST, May 16
The event in London has been sold out, and tickets for the parties in New York and India are said to be almost all spoken for. That shouldn't really come as a surprise since OnePlus has become the fifth most popular vendor of premium-priced smartphones in the world. Not bad for a company that started out almost five years ago to the day with the introduction of the OnePlus One. To match up supply with demand, which is very important to a startup in the industry, the phones were available via invitation only. Half a decade later, the OnePlus 6T was made available in the states through-Mobile.
OnePlus 7 Pro render
OnePlus grew because of its ability to produce flagship spec'd phones at a lower price. And the OnePlus 7 promises more of the same. The device should feature a 6.4-inch 1080p (Full HD) flat display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, a waterdrop notch and the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform under the hood. This model could be equipped with a dual camera setup made up of a 48MP primary camera and a depth sensor, and there will be a 16MP front-facing selfie snapper. Keeping the lights on will be a 3700mAh battery with 20W Warp Charge capabilities. An optical in-display fingerprint scanner is reportedly included, and a version of OxygenOS based on Android 9 Pie will be pre-installed.
The OnePlus 7 Pro will be the company's first model with a 1440p QHD+ display
Besides the OnePlus 7, we expect to see the OnePlus 7 Pro introduced at the parties. This will be the company's first handset to sport a notchless 1440p QHD+ display (with curved edges), which weighs in at 6.7-inches. The AMOLED panel will feature a 90Hz refresh rate making for a smoother user experience. Also powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC, this model should come with a triple camera setup in back. The 48MP primary camera has an aperture of f/1.6 (great for shooting in low light) and optical and electronic image stabilization (OIS & EIS). The 16MP camera has a super wide-angle lens, and the 8MP camera provides a 3x telephoto lens. The 16MP selfie camera pops up from the top of the unit using a motor.
OnePlus is giving this premium device a larger 4000mAh battery, and the phone will be offered in various configurations. For example, we expect to see variants offering 6GB of memory with 128GB of storage, 8GB of memory with 256GB of storage, and 12GB of memory with 256GB of storage. The OnePlus 7 Pro will come with the Android 9 Pie based version of OxygenOS already loaded.
As we said, the launch parties take place on May 14th. The units will ship starting on May 22nd, although T-Mobile will be offering the OnePlus 7 as soon as the official introduction of the device is over. The OnePlus 7 is expected to retail in the neighborhood of $579. The OnePlus 7 Pro, available in Blue, Gray, and Brown, could start at $749, while the 5G version of the latter (which is not going to be available in the states) might carry a price tag of $899 and up.
