Niantic debuts Adventure Week event to celebrate distance traveled by Pokemon GO players

The studio behind the wildly popular Pokemon GO game, Niantic has just announced that as of May 11, the community of the game has traveled more than 15.8 billion kilometers.

In celebration of the new achievement, the developers announced a new in-game event called the Adventure Week, which runs through 1:00 P.M. PDT on May 18 to 1:00 P.M. PDT on May 25, 2017.

The event is meant to help players stock up for new adventures that Niantic will launch for Pokemon GO players. So, over the course of a week, players will gain more items from every PokeStop they visit, and Poke Balls will be 50% off in the in-game shop.

Moreover, Buddy Pokemon will find Candies four times as fast for the duration of the celebration. Pokemon GO players may want to pay attention while exploring new locations, as Rock-type Pokemon like Omanyte, Kabuto, and their Evolutions will appear a lot more common.

Also, Niantic introduced a new avatar item that will be added to Pokemon GO players' wardrobe, which is called Explorer's Hat. There's no mention of what it really does, so maybe it's just a cosmetic upgrade.
