Motorola will only release the Android Q update for Moto Z4

The Moto Z4 is Motorola's newest mid-range Android smartphone, one that will not be followed by the usual Force Edition model, which the US company said it canceled. Those who bought the Moto Z4 might not have known though that Motorola doesn't plan more than one major Android OS update for the device.

The smartphone vendor confirmed to Digital Trends (via XDA Developers) that there are no plans for a Moto Z4 Android R update and that the smartphone will only receive the upcoming Android Q update, at least for the time being.

Despite the fact that Motorola was one of the few companies that provided two years of Android OS update for all mid-range and top-tier phones, that strategy changed once the company was acquired by Lenovo. Nowadays, only Motorola flagships are getting major Android OS updates for two years, while the rest of its phones receive just one such update.

Ironically, the competition (i.e. Samsung, Huawei) has shifted focus in the last couple of years so that customers who bought mid-range phones to get two major Android OS updates. Not to mention that Google's phones are getting three years of updates.
