Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL now available to buy (in India and the UK)
Microsoft this week launched its latest mid-range smartphones, the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. The first market to get both of them is India, where the 640 costs $192 (11,999 INR in local currency), while the 640 XL can be purchased for $254 (15,799 INR). The Lumia 640 is also available in the UK, where customers can get it for £169.99.

As you may know, the Microsoft Lumia 640 has a 5-inch 720p display, and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor. Other features include an 8 MP rear camera, 0.9 MP front-facing camera, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of expandable internal memory, and a 2500 mAh battery. The Lumia 640 XL is also powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor, but it's bigger than the 640, coming with a 5.7-inch 720p display and a 3000 mAh battery. The 640 XL also has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. Both new Lumias run Windows Phone 8.1, and will be updated to Windows 10 sometime this summer.

In the US, the Lumia 640 will be available via AT&T, T-Mobile, and MetroPCS, possibly starting May. The Lumia 640 XL will be launched only on AT&T (at least for the beginning).

So, who's looking forward to buying the Lumia 640, or the Lumia 640 XL?

I can get: 1. Galaxy s4. 2. One plus one At about the same price as 640 XL in India, maybe 50$ more. Or I can go with moto G 2014 or moto E 2015 and save 50-100$ more. I don't think this product is worth of 254$ price. Though the 640 regular has nice pricing.

I'm sure the 640 XL would destroy all those phones on camera quality, the big problem on the 640s is the old S400.

In India M7 costs about 500$ last time I checked. I'd rather get a S5 or Moto X 2014 both of which cost around 450$.

Nice. Looking forward to learn about the camera. Looks like there is no notification bar, shows only icons over grid background.

Ok, at $250 for the 3G 640 XL, one would assume the LTE variant will cost more, probably $300 give or take. For that kind of money you can get a new Samsung Note 3, Asus Zenfone 2 or Oneplus One, all of which blow the 640 XL away in evey single category, expect maybe the camera. I want to try a Windows phone for a change, but If the 640 XL is more than $225 in the United States, forget about it, I'll get one of the three androids above. PS. My wife's Motoralla Atrix HD is over two years old and has better specs than the new Lumia 640's and I paid $120 brand new!

Since when did specs reveal every aspect of a phone? The iPhone has a slower processer yet blows several high specced Droids out of the water in terms of speed and performance. Of course, the UI is your preference - if you don't like it then the phone is pretty much crap for you anyways ;)

Specs aren't eveything, but they do make a difference and play a part in pricing and value for your money for a lot of people. Who doesn't like to get more for thier money? Also resale value is going to be better with a better spec'd phone. If the 640 XL LTE is under $250 I'm in, if it's higher, the other choices I mentioned are much better deals all around. Also the iphone 6 does not blow away any high spec'd droids, not even close. The Droid Turbo beats the iphone in just about every benchmark.
