MIUI 9 is official: Split-screen multitasking, performance enhancements, a smart assistant on deck

Xiaomi just made the 9th version of its MIUI interface official. With the highlights of this one being baked-in image search, a virtual Smart assistant (because of course), and a smart app launcher, MIUI 9 is keeping itself on par with all the contemporary custom Android interfaces that exist. Of course, those three are not the only new features that make a debut inside the new MIUI version, though it's explicitly stated that the current set of features is for China only and certain feature might not make it to the official global ROM.

The image search feature that we mentioned will be able to go through your photos and filter them out by people, location, expression, events, documents, and screenshots. Aside from that, the Smart Assistant will also be able to do that, but will also be capable of scouring through text and files as well. Lastly, the smart launcher will be capable of providing the user with relevant apps based on the screen's contents.

Now, possibly the most important improvements on board are under-the-hood enhancements under the form of decreased app loading times, a new file system, improved cache management, dynamic resource allocation, and a whole other trove of such tweaks are in tow.

The bottom line here is that Xiaomi has been obviously working hard to further optimize its custom Android distribution and make it more competitive and performance-oriented. Given that MIUI is one of the heavier and feature-packed user interfaces out and about, that's a welcome improvement.
