Lumia Camera app now works with non-Lumia Windows Phone models

Back at the beginning of this year, we told you that the Lumia Camera app will work on all Windows 10 devices (including PCs and tablets), regardless of the manufacturer. But right now, even before Windows 10 Mobile has been rolled out, non-Lumia Windows Phone 8.1 powered handsets can download and install Lumia Camera.

According to those who tested the app on a Huawei Ascend W1 and the Samsung ATIV SE, not all of the features of Lumia Camera work on non-Lumia handsets. Certain functions, like using the app to set the focus and exposure time of the rear camera, caused the app to crash. The app cannot be used as the default camera app on non-Lumia phones.

Lumia Camera allows users to customize the settings on the rear camera of a Windows Phone flavored handset. The app also includes Rich Capture, which uses HDR to take multiple exposures of a photograph with various settings, and blends them into one picture. Users can later adjust the amount of the HDR effect on a particular photo. With the flash enabled, multiple exposures are taken with and without flash; once again the user can adjust the picture to his liking.

The Lumia Camera app can be found in the Windows Phone Store where it is a free download.
