Latest rumor has a Valentine's Day launch for the Apple Watch, with a top price of $5000

A rumor, coming from France, has Apple launching the Apple Watch on February 14th, which of course is Valentine's Day. Timing the release of its long-awaited smartwatch for that date confirms the degree to which Apple is considering its timepiece to be a fashion item. Apple even placed the device on display during Fashion Week in Paris.

According to the same rumor, Apple will price the Watch Edition of the device at a steep $5000. This variant of the timepiece includes an 18K Gold build. An earlier rumor from back in September gave the same price for this edition of Apple's smartwatch. The rumor goes on to say that the model sporting a stainless steel case will carry a price tag of $500, which is a premium over the $349 price of the Apple Watch Sport version. The latter is the entry-level model of the Apple Watch.

Back in February of 2013, word first leaked out that Apple was working on a smartwatch, which was quickly (and incorrectly) dubbed the iWatch. Rumors about the device naturally were bandied about until September 9th, when Apple CEO Tim Cook finally introduced the Apple Watch.
