Huawei is developing a new 20W SuperCharger for its mid-range devices

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro's 40W charger

Back in October, alongside the Mate 20 Pro, Huawei announced its new SuperCharge 2.0 technology. This makes use of a powerful 40W adapter and is capable of charging the aforementioned flagship’s 4,200mAh battery from 0 to 70% in just 30 minutes.

Rather unsurprisingly, there is a high production cost associated with this charger, hence why it was only bundled in with the Mate 20 Pro. But if a newly-leaked document is anything to go by, it appears Huawei may be actively developing a slightly less powerful version that’ll be bundled in with certain mid-range and high-end smartphones in the future.

According to the information, the new charger uses an entirely new charging protocol that offers half the power of the SuperCharge 2.0 standard. This means that instead of charging at 10V/4A and producing 40W of power, the new standard applies 10V/2A and offers 20W.

It’s claimed that Huawei’s new charger will be announced in 2019, although the exact timeframe is not specified. Nevertheless, with the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro expected to go official in either March or April, it seems extremely likely that this new adapter will make an appearance alongside these devices. After all, it’ll probably be included inside the box of the regular P30 – the P30 Pro will presumably support Huawei’s 40W charger.
