The Huawei Mate 10 is expected to be unveiled on October 16th. We've already learned that the device will be powered by Huawei's new home-grown Kirin 970 chipset, which will include a dedicated chip for Augmented Reality. We expect the screen to weigh in at 5.9-inches and carry a resolution of 1080 x 2160. The aspect ratio, which you can probably work out for yourself, is 18:9. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro will wear the QHD+ screen in the family, with a 1440 x 2880 resolution. Huawei is calling its edge-to-edge screen a "full vision display."

Today, the world's third largest smartphone manufacturer released a six-second video that allegedly shows the lock screen of the Mate 10. The most interesting new feature is the "intelligent color selection" which matches the color of the wallpaper with the color of the text that is seen on top of the backdrop.

The dual cameras on back are expected to include a primary snapper shooting in color with an f/1.6 aperture, and a monochrome shooter for black and white images. The Kirin 970 is said to support this combination, which Huawei has actually used before. The combination provides sharper images and allows for better quality photographs under low-light conditions.

Huawei is closing in on Apple's global share of the smartphone industry. While the iPhone X is going to do well, it still might suffer at first from supply issues and that huge price tag. The Huawei Mate 10 just might be the device that drops Apple into third place. Samsung is the handset manufacturer that Apple and Huawei are chasing.
