What's good about Gear IconX?

So, let's begin with the good news. First and foremost, the earbuds fit comfortably into one's ears, without being too tight or too loose. You do get three sets of ear and wing tips, so we're pretty sure that you won't feel uncomfortable while wearing them. A charging case is also included in the mix.

A rather unique feature of the Gear IconX is the built-in music player with a capacity of 4GB which allows you to do phone-free listening, perfect for outdoor activities. While we're still on that topic, these earphones also have an integrated fitness tracker and heart rate monitor that are capable of sharing data with your smartphone. To top things off, Gear IconX have been treated to a nanocoating by P2i, which means that they repel liquids such as sweat and moisture.

What are the weak points of Gear IconX?

Alright, so what are the cons? The biggest drawback is battery life, sadly. If you stream via Bluetooth from your phone at maximum volume, you can drain the IconX in 60-75 minutes. For comparison, Apple's AirPods easily last above 5 hours. Using the built-in player will extend the time between charges, but don't expect anything more than 2 hours of playback time. That's enough for a workout or a run, but not enough to get you through a day of active listening.

Other flaws include the lack of compatibility with iOS and touch controls which need some getting used to.

Making an informed decision

Should you buy the Gear IconX? Well, depends on your needs. Training without having to carry your phone around is certainly a big plus, but one has to be aware that this awesomeness doesn't last long. The charging case does help out a bit here, but it can't compensate for this shortcoming.

On the other side, these are branded earphones with features that aren't widely available on the market. The Gear IconX are also about $80 cheaper than Apple's AirPods, which could make them very appealing for some people.
