Apple, I think you need to address the iPhone Duo launch fiasco because a lot of people are very angry

The iPhone Duo launch has not gone well, Apple. I don't see why you're congratulating yourself.

The iPhone Duo sold out within seconds of becoming available for pre-order on the online Apple store. But this isn’t an exciting story of demand outpacing supply for a device that customers have been waiting for for over seven years.

The iPhone Duo disappeared from the company’s online store because opportunistic scalpers pounced on the phone as soon as it became available. Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone can still be bought online if you’re willing to pay almost thrice its retail price.

What just happened?

Automated systems and large teams of predatory “businessmen” were on the Apple website for the release of the iPhone Duo. The average end consumer didn’t stand a chance.

Shipping dates for normal customers have slipped well into next year and many people are now hoping that they’ll be able to get an iPhone Duo when they become available in stores. Problem is, analysts and insiders are now questioning whether any in-store units will even remain after the first few hours, because scalpers are not going to stop at just the online store.

Apple is congratulating itself

Instead of addressing what just took place, Apple is congratulating itself on a job well done. In formal statements, the company says that iPhone Duo demand has been “nothing short of extraordinary” instead of admitting that it fumbled the launch.

Apple has been quick to reiterate that it thinks that the iPhone Duo is an exceptional product. The company also says that it will work harder to ensure that the Duo lands in more hands soon but refuses to admit why it’s already out of units to sell.

A less-than-stellar launch for the iPhone Duo

In my opinion, Apple should have anticipated such an outcome because it already knew that stock would be very limited at launch. The supply chain had warned of such a scenario long before we even knew that the phone would be called the iPhone Duo.

Apple wanted to show off the iPhone Duo in September, hoping that CEO John Ternus would immediately jump the popularity ladder in doing so. Well, we got a look at the iPhone Duo, alright, but that might be the only thing we’ll be doing.

If Apple doesn’t take extreme measures, most customers might be getting their phone half a year from now, when news about the iPhone Duo 2 will have started coming out. This, and I hope you’ll agree here, is unacceptable.

Apple should have done more

With the resources that Apple has, the company should have taken measures to prevent this from happening at all. A long-awaited iPhone model is now going for over $5,000 on platforms like eBay.

Will the most dedicated Apple fans pay that much? Probably. But don’t expect the iPhone Duo to become a common sight in public any time soon.

There’s no other way to put this, Apple messed this up badly. Instead of this being an exciting new chapter for the company, it’s going to be a major disappointment for many of you.

It’s simply unthinkable that Apple didn’t postpone the launch until manufacturing problems had been sorted out or until it had put measures in place to prevent scalping to this insane degree.

And instead of apologizing for this mess, the company is too busy patting itself on the back. I don’t see anything here to be proud of, to be honest. This was a colossal disaster.

Some time back, I said that you should stay away from the iPhone Duo because it’s a first-generation product. Hardware problems and software glitches are likely to make themselves known soon.

This just gives you more incentive to hold off until the iPhone Duo 2 comes out. Apple should have sorted any oversights by then. And, perhaps, supply issues as well.

In the meantime, might I interest you in a Galaxy Z Fold 8? It truly is a stunning phone.
