BLU launches its first Windows Phone 8.1 handset, the Win JR, to compete with the Lumia 530

BLU launches its first Windows Phone 8.1 handset, the Win JR, to compete with the Lumia 530
Not long ago, we told you that BLU would release two Windows Phone handsets in the near future, both being targeted at users on a budget. The first among the two devices is now available to purchase, and it’s one of the cheapest Windows-based smartphones ever.

Called BLU Win JR, the new handset can be bought via Microsoft Store and Amazon. Interestingly, while Amazon is selling the phone for $89, you have to pay $10 more - $99 - if you’re getting it from Microsoft Store. Both prices are for an unlocked unit.

BLU is positioning the Win JR as a Lumia 530 competitor, and points out that its handset offers a few more advanced features, including a VGA front-facing camera, a 5 MP rear camera with autofocus and 720p video recording, and a 1950 mAh battery. That aside, the BLU Win JR comes with a 4-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels, HSPA, 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 4 GB of internal memory (these are features that the Lumia 530 is also offering).

The BLU Win JR is available in several color versions, including white, magenta, yellow, and orange. Any takers?

Yes they did. Add in the unboxing at wpcentral. It included 2 screen protectors one already applied. A protective case and ear buds, for 90.

I was surprised by all of the included swag for $89. That's impressive. I remember when HTC used to load up their boxes with extras.

Welcome, BLU! More OEM's are always welcome into the WP camp! A low cost handset like this will only serve to aid Microsoft/WP in gaining market share.

Yeah, this is what I want, but in real life, that battery will no where near, where the 530s battery is, in terms of quality build, count on lumias.

You couldn't possibly copy Nokia Lumias more blatantly than this.

Doesn't matter. It's a cheaper phone at the same screen size as the Nokia but it includes a FF Cam and a Rear Flash. I'd rather get this phone.

Actually not bad but not swaying me away from my lumia 930 purchase, gotta be my favourite phone so far until the nexus 6.

It's pure windows so unless there is absolute needed firmware it will get windows updates.

Blu Android devices are kinda good but if u want to get the most of them has to be Root... Dont know how's gonna be with WP.

You root cause stock android is well stock and a reason why launchers, touchwiz, etc etc exist. Win like IOS is the same on all devices. Win is already light and will have no issues imo that is

WP OS is not the same on every device. Manufacturers and carriers customize and block features and updates still have to wait on carriers. That is why I am STILL waiting for WP 8.1 for my T-Mobile Lumia 925 months after it was released.
