Asus lifts cover off Padfone Infinity: 5-inch 1080p phone docks into 10-inch 1200p tablet
Asus has been teasing a new generation of its Padfone for MWC, and sure enough it has just become official: the Asus Padfone Infinity, a device coming in two parts, a 5-inch, 1080p 4G LTE phone that docks into a 10.1-inch tablet with a 1080p display.

The new Padfone Infinity comes with a sleek aluminum alloy body with brushed metal finish. Under the hood, a quad-core 1.7GHz Quadlcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM power the experience.

The 5-inch Padfone Infinity features a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony BSI sensor and wide f/2.0 aperture for better low-light performance. The camera unit consists of 5-elements and features a single LED flash. On the front, there is a 2-megapixel snapper.

Designwise, you get a phone that measures 8.9mm at its thickest but goes down to 6.3mm at its slimmest point. Inside, there is a 2,400mAh non-removable battery. Good news is the Padfone Infinity launches with the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box.

The Padfone Infinity Station on the other hand, the 10-inch tablet chassis, has a 1,920 x 1,200-pixel resolution and packs a 5,000mAh battery. It is powered completely by the 5-inch phone that docks in it, so it does not have a standalone processor. It does however feature a 1-megapixel front camera. The station is 10.7mm thick and weighs 530g.

The Padfone Infinity phone cum tablet combo will come in 32GB or 64GB versions with a nano-SIM card slot. We don’t have the exact release date just yet but price should be around £799 ($1,200) in the UK.

It will be so hard choosing between this and the Lenovo Ideaphone K900, one of the slimmest phones ever at 6.9mm with a 2GHz dual core Intel processor, or this beautiful device. Qualcomm vs Intel, Aluminum vs Steel, I can not decide.

now there's something people dont mention often the K900...beauty and beast of a phone! and of course Asus always makes products which fill my heart with warmth... MWC is getting too hot to handle already :)

While it is true this phone has some advantages over the HTC One, you forgot to mention that this ASUS Padfone Infinity has only been announced for Europe with no intentions of a US release. So, for those of us here in the states, we would be more inclined to buy the HTC One because of availability and the offering of a subsidized price. However, this is a great device that those may have the money to buy it should consider.

Is this based upon their availability of devices in the US?

Right, don't forget this will cost A LOT. Also the One is 4mm at its slimmest point, so what is your point?

They led their way to failure... Locked bootloader (S-On), sealed batery, No SD card...and now they added a peculiar camera to it. I was really surprised 3 yrs back, how this company came from nowhere to the top, and in the next 3 yrs they are finding their in going down...

Last time I checked, the Nexus 7 wasn't a phone, and HTC doesn't make tablets...

Beautiful device but Asus needs to sort out the distribution process. Padfone 2 has not even made it to some markets yet, so I guess we won't see Padfone 3 in shops before 2014.

wtf with 1080p @ 30fps... tech industry now is really hopeless to progress...i mean how more would these companies suck our customer's blood by giving us the same s**t again and again.. if u compare the previous to next gen, the development is like mere 10-20%! compare any company's new devices and u will see the same thing happening... its just been confirmed that sammy would use Qualcom 600 chip and Non-Super AMOLED screen... WTF to that! Super AMOLED is the biggest reason i and millions of people dont switch from sammy! yeah i know there would be many disliking my comment, but its a fact! believe it or not! ALL THESE COMPANIES ARE JUST SUCKING BLOOD OUT OF CUSTOMERS! Marginal rate of technical development is so negligible, i am very disappointed!

Normally I would just thumb you down because of your obnoxious rant but I kind of agree with you. It's the reason I haven't upgraded yet. I'm waiting for the next big thing and I can't find it.

my friend u should know that screen of sammy still sucks, its nothing compared to htc. take it colour quality or sunlight legibility, all i can say is that sammy has damn good marketing skills otherwise phones durability and quality sucks. i dont care how many thumbs i get, b it down or up, but its a truth which tastes bitter.quality wise there is no match for HTC. i used to have sammy gs3 and now thanx god i changed it to htc one x.reason??? the software even after updates hangs so much. it was not as smooth as htc. first it was better but slowly it started to show its true colours ie...... started slowing down and hell yeah i sold it. CONCLUSION-- sammy is no where near in the compitition. htc is the best among all.

What exactly are you answering? He said the displays HTC uses are better than Sammy's S-AMOLED. The Optimus G Pro uses an IPS LCD display, while HTC uses S-LCD typically. The S-LCD2 on the One X is absolutely gorgeous, though I haven't seen the S-LCD3 of the DNA/Butterfly or One, I imagine it would be even better.

ASUS HAS a long way to go.and that aluminium body aint better than htc. look at the design byurself . htc is way tooo better than asus. hardware of HTC ONE IS THE BEST SO FAR. and again leme remind u ...... its ULTRAPIXEL which takes better shots than any phone yet.CAMERS OF ASUS is not even giving a minor hard time to other companies.HTC ONE STILL THE BEST AMONG ALL. GOOD LUCK, HOWEVER. oh yeah and i forgot to mention..........asus has not even reached many markets and countries yet. a big fail!!!!
