Android 4.0.4 coming to Sony's 2011 Xperia lineup

Android 4.0.4 coming to Sony's 2011 Xperia lineup
Sony is sending out the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich to its 2011 Xperia lineup. Starting this week, Android 4.0.4 is being sent out to the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V, Sony Ericsson Xperia mini, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia active and the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray. Besides the new OS version, the update includes bug fixes, performance enhancements and other improvements.

Over the next few weeks, the update will expand to the Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo L and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. If your phone has already been updated to Android 4.0, you will be able to download Android 4.0.4 using an OTA prompt. Those using a 2011 Sony Xperia model still running Gingerbread will have to hook up to a PC or Mac using PC companion or Bridge for Mac once they receive the notification that the update has arrived.

Kudos to Sony for actually closing in on its promise to update its entire 2011 Sony Xperia lineup to Ice Cream Sandwich. The Japanese based manufacturer could have used the simple excuse that the promise was made when its joint venture with Ericsson was active. In this day and age, when a corporation follows through on a major promise, you have to take notice.

Sony rocks! They have been delivering the best update support in the industry since X10 days. I remember how these blogs bashed SE for X10 updates. They forgot SE actually set a record by updating X10 from 1.6 to 2.3.

Sony sucks, more like. They forgot about us Xperia PLAY customers, from their 2011 line-up and PhoneArena completely swept it under the carpet as well, probably exchanging scolding this corporate for some product news/preview favours in the future. I'm wrong? Prove it. Rewrite this article, question Sony for leaving out Xperia PLAY and interview them as to why they done so, when more inferior phones did receive the ICS upgrade. For those who believed in the PlayStation phone, waited for it with abaited breath, bought it when it came out and invested in it, now are being abandoned by this corporation.

So now please push the update out to the ion. Then it'll be the best deal on AT&T's lineup.

Well, AT&T will delay it as much as it can - you know the deal. But the good thing is international version of Ion has ICS and it can be flashed onto AT&T Ion in like 5 minutes without any bug/issue. As an added bonus, all AT&T crapware will be gone :D

Ok.. But i've been using 4.0.4 since the last major ICS rollout last June.. and i can really say i saw quite a number of bugs. So will mine still be updated to get rid of these bugs? Even if it's the same version number?

I think it'll be another minor 4.04 update that will fix the existing bugs.

Recently bought Xperia P haven't yet got ICS (PCC says GB .184 is uptdate) and they are talking of 2011 devices. Their rolouts are real mess. Call center based support is bigger mess ...

Yes, all except the Xperia PLAY, that is! Still think Sony are great? You obviously, did not "take notice" of that, did you, Phone Arena? Sony broke their promise to release ICS for Xperia PLAY, despite having listed it, in their press releases, as being part of the upgrade programme. So, when you consider that the Mini and Pro are getting the update, how on earth can Sony not make it work on a device that has a 1GHz CPU?!! So, really, it's not the "entire" 2011 range, is it...?
