WhatsApp updated with Material Design; download the apk now
If you've been waiting for that special day when messaging app WhatsApp could be updated with the Material Design of Android 5.0, the good news is that day is here. You won't find this update in the Google Play Store yet, no matter how hard you try. But by clicking on the sourcelink, you can download the apk file (19MB) to version 2.12.34 of WhatsApp.

You will get to enjoy all of the new animations and changes to the UI of the popular app. Besides the new UI, WhatsApp's Android users can now make phone calls over the app without having to be called first.

And don't forget that WhatsApp is testing out integration with Facebook. The latter purchased the messaging app for over $21 billion and is now looking at ways to take advantage of the purchase. What is being tested now is a "share" button that is available right now only to Facebook beta testers. Clicking on the button allows Facebook users to share news with WhatsApp subscribers.

Check out some screenshots of the new green-tinged Material Design version of WhatsApp by clicking on the slideshow below.

Thanks for the tip!

Wow Material Design from Facebook?
Lacking animations and transitions
Its a decent attempt at Material design
Hopefully Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are next

Downloaded and Installed. The app really feels great now. Nice Animations, and performance has been improved too.

Thing is though, material design just sucks overall. It looks amateurish. Kinda sad it made it over, and I'm hoping it doesn't make it over to other apps.

Material Design is new. Give it some time, a year from now, every Google App users will be expecting it.

But they got iOS7 UI for WhatsApp just weeks after the iOS7 was released. Their OS is very closed that's why it's taking time for them for the calling feature (same for wp)

still not material design at all, but at least they changed that ugly black bar on top to material-design green...
Menues and so on are still not material design, also no floating button?

damn how long do these guys need for such small changes??

At all?

-Solid color title bars
-Color-adaptive notification bar
-Circle buttons and icons
-Minimal lines

Come again?

that doesn't seem like a material design. the new chat button doesn't hover on the right lower corner of the screen as its seen in material design app like messsenger, evernote, onedrive etc. Its the step in the right direction but not there yet.

Whatsapp still can't make use of the micro-sd card to store messages and media in Lollipop. Take care of the basics first you twits!
