Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series to receive Android 5.0 at the beginning of next year

Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series to receive Android 5.0 at the beginning of next year
A tweet sent from the Sony Xperia team on Wednesday, indicates that the manufacturer is planning on beginning the process of updating the core Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z2 series starting early next year. Last month, Sony was beta testing Android 5.0 on both the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact.

Sony has already announced that it will update the entire Xperia Z series to the Lollipop build. For the record, the devices getting the update include the Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia ZR, Sony Xperia Tablet Z, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Sony Xperia Z1, SonyXperia Z1S, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3v, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

If you figured that the most recent models, like the Xperia Z3, would be first to get updated, you'd be wrong. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play edition, thanks to the stock Android version of the OS that powers this variant of the phablet, has already received the update to Android 5.0. Receiving updates early is one of the perks of buying a Google Play edition phone.

The Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series will be updated to Lollipop early in 2015

Battery life better be improved. I'm really frustrated after the 4.4.4 update on the Z2, battery life has been terrible.

I've been having the same issue on my Z2. How much screen-on time do you get?

I get 7 to 8 hours of screen on time and a full charge lasts a day and a half with. My z2 is currently 4.4.4 kitket so there is a problem with your bettery or some app is killing your bettery life. And one more thing I use stamina mode at 40%.

No problems with me. 4-5 hours screen on time with max auto brightness and relatively heavy use.

They should push out the updates a little faster... Even an outdated LG G2 already received the Lollipop update.

Hopefully Sony will make it easy to uninstall all the garbage they put on their phones. And root. Life is too precious to deal with OEM/carrier malwares and bloats... :)

I have no issues with my z2, average usage 1 hour internet, 1 hour mp3, constant facebook and whatsapp, I get almost 2 days, have you guys check the battery status to see which app is killing your battery, then kill the task

It's a pain already not being able to update to 4.4.4. I live in Hawaii and have no way of receiving the update. Is there anyone else with this problem? Am I in a zone that doesn't receive the updates?

Please don't screw this up, Sony. My Z1 has worked decently on 4.4.4 for months.
