Some Sony Xperia Z models are turning into water resistant paperweights; Sony to offer a fix
Share:
Sony says that the problem is related to a low battery charge, but that is refuted by those whose Sony Xperia Z passed away with a full charge. The good news is that Sony Mobile is fully aware of the problem and a fix is being readied to go out with the next software update. Unfortunately, Sony does not have an exact date when this update will be going out.
So how about our loyal readers? Anyone have a Sony Xperia Z that just took its last breath recently?

Even though this sucks. I like how they are adressing it so fast. One step foward in becoming the next big phone manufacture is adressing these problems fast and owning up to the problem.

One step forward to becoming the next big phone manufacturer is properly testing and catching these issues before they go to market...
Sony are renouned for releasing hardware with issues, and yet still havent learnt.
45. kclgphilsbsa posted on 21 Mar 2013, 05:45 1 0
they are releasing new phones in a fast pace to provide what they call the best so they dont have the time to test them and make sure of their quality
poor Sony

I don't have this problem on my Xperia Z, but Sony better send that update fast to the Xperia Z users, we love Sony!

the paper should be pi2 coated / water resistant for that water resistant paperweight to make sense.

And....no phone is perfect. I have yet to hear of any phone that didnt have a problem.

how about "sudden self-explosion while being charged"?
53. BillyG posted on 21 Mar 2013, 07:19 0 2
none of it is 'sudden'. those happens because of the wrong use.
37. pwnarena posted on 21 Mar 2013, 04:57 6 1
antenna problems? misleading maps?
52. BillyG posted on 21 Mar 2013, 07:07 0 4
how stupid can you be? even if they got some antenna problems and misleading maps (that can easily be solved), it still can be used as a smartphone, unlike those SXZ dead paperweight.

But I've seen them freeze and broke really easy here in New Mexico and just cause it doesn't happen around you doesn't mean it doesn't happen to iPhone user everywhere, I'm just saying there's always going to be something wrong with the all those devices and it doesn't matter if it's Android, iPhone, WP or any other Smartphone OS
21. haseebzahid posted on 21 Mar 2013, 01:14 0 0
it normally gets cellular issues with antenas for first batchs always
31. wendygarett (limited) 2 days ago posted on 21 Mar 2013, 03:08 7 1
This is why I decided to purchase it at October, first batch device always a faulty one
62. rusticguy posted on 21 Mar 2013, 16:36 2 0

It's funny people put the Xperia Z on a pedestal saying it has the best design, display ect. when the fact that no matter how fast, or good the phone looks Sony phones ALWAYS have problems. More than iPhones when they release a new one. Funny thing is you don't get that problem from Samsung phones :)
24. emadshiny posted on 21 Mar 2013, 01:56 7 4
i think you missed one thing:
S3 had sleep of death issue as well.
"Funny thing is you don't get that problem from Samsung phones"
maybe YOU don't want to see. LOL
29. pyradark posted on 21 Mar 2013, 02:26 0 5
also the build quality issue on blue color of S3.
LOL, SOny update all there line up each year, there are some that didnt make it but compare to sammy, ony S 1-4 and note and couple of ok phone will get update, but A LOT will dont get any of update.
Now I see sammy dont have any problem with every phone hahahaha
33. shuaibhere posted on 21 Mar 2013, 03:22 6 1
Sony good in update than samsung???
What about xperia arc??? S2 is getting jellybean...
Xperia s is still in ics while s3 is running jb...
And s3 is getting all the software features of s4 which doesn't require any special software...
What world you are living in????
47. pyradark posted on 21 Mar 2013, 06:30 1 4
only S2 and S3 is the only phone you can site. too bad there are a lot of sammy phone out there and poor people, they dont get any update bcoz sammy is busy with the S2-4.
and LOL again you compare XS to S3, you must be out of this world, its easy to update a phone with latest hardware.
56. shuaibhere posted on 21 Mar 2013, 08:20 3 1
What about tipo??? galaxy music getting jelly bean...
axe +.s duos are getting jelly bean...what about sola????
don't talk about carrier tied phones..it is not samsung's mistake...
Xs and s3 where flagship phones of respective companies in H1 of 2012 ..so nothing wrong in comparing it...

39. kclgphilsbsa posted on 21 Mar 2013, 05:10 1 0
i know abt sudden death issues of s3,
but having sudden death issue for a month-old smartphone is ridiculous..
50. kdealltheway posted on 21 Mar 2013, 06:44 1 1
It's ridiculous for any flagship! Being proud that your phone died later then someone else's is just stupid. This type of things shouldn't happen in this price range, to come to think about it, in any price range!
26. Ninetysix posted on 21 Mar 2013, 02:03 7 4
You are trolling right? Look up sudden death issue on the S3. There's a 450+ thread on xda about it. Lots of S3s dying each day.

This actually a new thread! how come Samsung announced in end of 2012 for an update solve this issue?!!!
41. kclgphilsbsa posted on 21 Mar 2013, 05:20 1 0
given that these issues of s3 came after months of use is different from a newly used phone having sudden death issue..
and given that s3 was sold in million units, maybe a minimal percentage of those users have the problem,,
while this XZ having just released lately and still with few users.. are now having the problem..

I still think waterproof is the most "useful" gimmick function lately introduced on a cellphone.
Now I can use my phone in the shower, in the rain, in the pool, beach, etc w/ no worries
Those places used to be the grave of smartphones (b4 waterproof cases).
P.S:Plus u can always impress the ladies/friends by dunking ur phone in the beer
34. bayusuputra posted on 21 Mar 2013, 03:31 5 0
actually, it is useful in tropical countries like mine, where rain can suddenly pours without ample warning. The waterproofing certainly help if you can't find shelters nearby and you are stuck with your phone in the open.
Happened to me few days ago. Riding my bike and out of a sudden, the rain poured and luckily for me, there was a shelter, although my 8X was quite damp by the time I took it out of my jeans. The only reason I had to stop is because I didn't want my phone to die. And having a waterproof certification certainly helps. Yeah, probably I won't take it to the pool, but it is certainly beneficial in emergency cases.

Nothing new I've seen most Android Devices do this and I'm not surprised at all, It's just what it does from time to time after so much altering with the OS it becomes unstable and CRASHS

Received my Xperia Z yesterday (21/3/13) at 11 am and the screen froze on me today at 12pm!! As I am still (27 days) under O2's 28 day warranty, they are replacing it with a brand new one - wonder if I will get more than a day's use of that one......???!!!
