Snapdragon 820: V3.X Version To Come With A Lot Of Improvements
Recently we heard that Samsung is testing the next Galaxy S7 with both Snapdragon 820 and next-gen Exynos M1 chipsets, with the 820 getting the lab nod to be fitted in the S7 for certain markets. Today another report popped up, claiming that Qualcomm has just supplied Samsung with an even better 3.X version of the Snapdragon 820, on which it has spent quite a lot of time at further optimizations.

As a result, the latest Snapdragon 820 edition, as supplied to Samsung, would retain its four custom Kryo cores, the powerful Adreno 530 GPU, and the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process, but will offer even lower power consumption and better thermal management, resulting in an overall performance increase of up to 10%, with the potential to reach much more in further tweaking.

Given that Snapdragon 820 can theoretically reach speeds of up to 3 GHz per core, this might present Samsung with quite the conundrum which chipset to use for the Galaxy S7. Whichever way it goes, one can be certain that both the eventual Exynos and Snapdragon versions of the upcoming flagship will rock the benchmarks as if there is no tomorrow.
