Only 100 of each of these Galaxy Alpha models with leather backs will be produced

Earlier today we posted an image showing off four distinct leather back panels that Samsung was prepping for use with limited edition Galaxy Alpha models. Not even three hours later, Samsung published said models on its French site and we now have a good, high-res look and the whole back story in front of us.

To start off, Samsung will only produce 100 units of each model, or 400 units total. Developed alongside Free Lance and Jean-Baptiste Rautureau, these are aimed at both sexes – brown and dark gray for men, burgundy and teal for the ladies. It is unclear what type of leather we're looking at, but we do know that each model will cost €649 (~$794), while the standard edition of the Alpha costs €569 (~$696) in France.

In case you're unfamiliar with the Galaxy Alpha, it's the first modern Samsung smartphone to feature metal (its frame). It's got a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280, good for a pixel density of 312, an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 12-megapixel rear camera with support for 4K video capture. The Galaxy Alpha's slender, 0.27 in (6.9 mm) profile and the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate monitor don't leave much space for a battery, however – the juicer on board is only 1,860 mAh.

I hate to see what you think looks good, because it is likely hideous to everyone else. Looks are subjective at best.

I rather they be black. The one that is ugly is the teal one. The rest because they are darker look fairly nice.

I wonder if it's real leather.

lol, looks are really subjective because the red and teal ones are the ones I like the most. Too bad they're Samsung though, I lost interest in them after some hands on time with touchwiz.

Stop saying it's the first Samsung smartphone to feature metal, it's not. The Samsung wave series had metal. Please correct, it was the first Galaxy smartphone to feature a decent amount of metal (the S4 active had metal faux screws)

"it's the first modern Samsung smartphone".The Samsung wave was released in 2010 and with bada OS,it wasn't really modern nowadays

Doesn't match the industrial front design.

Samsung should use real leather on the Note. That would be awesome. Especially with the latest model. The metal sides with a leather back would have been awesome. I would even pay an extra $100 to have that. AT least I'd be getting something for my extra $100, unlike the latest iPhone models that use less than $1.00 worth of metal yet went up in price.

This is a nice move, but Samsung has the money to do this as part of their manufacturing these days. Faux materials are out, use the real thing.

Why don't Samsung stop all of this cheap faux stuff and get on with a real aluminum phone and stop releasing a phone every day of the week
