Lumia 1520 scores a victory against Note 3 and Xperia Z Ultra in our poll

Lumia 1520 scores a victory against Note 3 and Xperia Z Ultra in our poll
Whether it was because of the hype surrounding the announcement of the Nokia Lumia 1520 or something else, we don't know, but it looks like Nokia's first high-end phablet has really managed to appeal to our readers.

Shortly after the announcement of the gigantic smartphone, we ran a poll, asking you which phablet you'd like to get: the Lumia 1520, Galaxy Note 3, One max or Xperia Z Ultra. Well, even though Samsung's offering put up a real fight, it was the Nokia Lumia 1520 that ended up winning the first place with the staggering 40.37% (1447 votes). Still the Note 3 remains one of the users' favorites, as it has also gotten a pretty large chunk of the votes - 38% (1362 votes). Far behind these two is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Sony's 6.4" monster received just 14.76% of the votes, but it seems there's the least interest in the HTC One max, which has only 6.86% of the votes. Apparently, the large, aluminum body and fingerprint sensor weren't enough to attract enough attention from users. Well, it looks like Nokia has a real winner on its hands with the Lumia 1520. If only it could bring it faster to market now!

Exactly why Note 3 sales will destroy Lumia 1520 sales. Carrier exclusives are more damaging than productive.

Agreed PBXtech.

I believe Nokia had a winner on their hands with this phablet.. why they thought they had to enter into an exclusive with AT&T.. I have no idea. DUMB MOVE.

I would have taken a serious look at it, but since I'm stuck on Verizon - back to the Note 3 for me!

PA should not believe on the trolls here. They vote for Nokia, just to bash Note 3. But at the end of the day, they all are with iPhones in their pockets. LOL
And, 1520 will end the same sad way like HTC One , and G2, - no matter of the all pushes.
There is no need of such pole. Note 3 is The King. Productivity, classy, pocketability.

Build wise Samsung needs to improve the Bezel quality. The soft plastic it's made of is the reason I'm trading my Note for the 1520, I've never seen a phone take so much damage. The glass on the Note is better though.

This is the Windows phablet I've been waiting for! Excellent camera, great size, extra memory slot, great screen, Outlook calendar, etc etc. I don't need millions of apps to choose from - don't have the time or energy to choose, I have a life... If 'Android' phones are always going to be 'better' because of that, then why both pretending to review phones? Not everyone is an 18 year old playing games/watching videos/social networking; I am a busy mum and I need a good, reliable phone.

Because 5000 votes on tech website don't represent the world's population of 7.2 billion. Even iPhones didn't win any votes on PA that doesn't mean they don't sell in millions.

BTW, the difference is barely of 100 votes. That would hardly translate anything in real life.

Right now, 1520 only exists on Nokia labs. Stupid fanboy related pools doesn't make a phone 'hit'. Going by this poll, we will see Nokia selling more than Samsung. But that definitely isn't the case.

Samsung 'defined' the phablet-class. Everyone else is just a mere follower. Like it or not, there would be no 1520, no HTC Max if it wasn't for Note series. Everybody thought that large-screened phone was just a bad idea until Note series came into the picture.

BTW, Note is just not a phone with large screen. It's much more than a typical Android phone.

1520 is nothing but a typical WP8 phone. It's just upgraded hardware, nothing in software makes it standout. What makes it any different from 920 or 1020 apart from added hardware? You can't say the same for Note 3. Note 3 is the "king" of phablet category and is the only hit product in that range. Unless Nokia 1520 sales more than Note 3, it will remain as the UNDISPUTED king of phablet range.

That's what I call stupid uneducated fanboys..

no stylus??
apps for large screen??
what makes use of 6-inch screen in lumia? multi-tasking??
multi-window??
USB 3.0??
ANT+??
aptX??
3GB RAM??
4K recording??
Removable battery??
Barometer??
temperature and humidity sensor??
60 fps FHD recording??
120 fps slow motion HD video??
H.265/HEVC codec support??
FLAC support??
24-bit audio??
USB-OTG??
connect game controllers like PS3 controller to Lumia devices??

not to mention pathetic apps collection for WP in general. What Nokia sells in a year, Samsung does that in a month.

BTW, Samsung would have sold 5 million Note 3 by time Lumia 1520 is even out of the door.

You mean the same way you you get free MS OFFICE FREE with Surface RT?
Definitely it didn't help MS to sell a lot of RT tabs even with FREE MS OFFICE. They had to do a 'fire-sale' to empty the un-used inventory.

People suddenly doesn't become productive with just MS OFFICE. This is a very good tool, but that by itself isn't enough. It's small part of big picture. BTW, many office tools including MS office is also available in Android.

Do you have MS RDP app in WP?? Even Android has that, and it's owned by MS!!

Talk about productivity!

Thumbs up for showing the differences between the two phones, but I voted for the 1520 not because I am a fanboy but because I hate samsung's plasticky phones. when you accidently drop a samsung phone the battery and SD card goes flying. I also like the Nokia Camera app, and I encourage everyone to try it because it is actually very handy.

The problems with this phone are actually problems with the OS. Hopefully Nokia and Microsoft realize that because you make some really good points.

positive criticism is good but blind fanboyism isn't.
I agree note 3 is great device.
your points explained.

"no stylus??" -from this point every phablet is useless without stylus, I don't agree.

" apps for large screen??"- of course apps are there open your eyes though not all

"what makes use of 6-inch screen in lumia? multi-tasking??" - it can multi task in its own way.

" multi-window??"-good point.

" USB 3.0??"- are u sure its a con

"ANT+??"- no idea what it is.

" aptX??"- again no idea.

" 3GB RAM??"- why do you care about things you cant even see if a device is fast why care it it had 32mb ram.

"4K recording??"-even gsmarena says the quality is not good stick to 1080p.

"Removable battery??"-now this is a dumb point I had never met any person in my life who carries a charged spare battery. better carry portable charger if you need, it can use on many devices.

"Barometer??"-what ?? who uses it. its a gimmick.

"temperature and humidity sensor??"- again nonsense what do you do with it predict monsoons.

60 fps FHD recording??- good point. but lumia has its own benefit in video with optical stavalization and great audio recording, loosless zoom which are more important than 60fps recording.

"120 fps slow motion HD video??"-not sure if peple use it, any way point given.

"H.265/HEVC codec support??"- ya it supports many codecs and save some hassels on converting file types not a great can.

"FLAC support??"-is it flash, if yes even adobe is killing it.

"24-bit audio??"-again maybe point but real world performance matters.

" USB-OTG??"- I do miss it from my N8 days.

Now lumia over Note 3
;-
better screen (in sunlight atleast)
better camera with optical stabilization(it matters)
better voice recording .
better battery life ( from specifications)
wireless charging inbuilt.
better camera software with nokia camera.
fluidness and consistency in UI.(note 3 is fast too)
larger screen(somewhat)

sorry for long post
you should know that not everybody wants android it is for wp lovers, let them have a choice.
enjoy

why you need stylus on a 6" screen it is so big to use it easily
just launch any app on a big screen and it will work just like on a small one but it will be bigger
it has multitasking and user can switch between apps that's purpose of multitasking not painting in multitasking view
multi window is not very necessary when you have that use back button to return to previous application and not to homescreen as android does
how many MB/s did your USB 3.0 show? it wouldn't be able to reach speeds of 3.0 USB flesh drives so i don't see difference
ANT+,aptx don't know what those are
2GB is more then enough phones aren't created to be computer
4K is useless where you are going to upload 4k video? nowhere it's too big (don't count youtube)
why you want to remove battery if it works just fine? that's in case if you have solid device and not just a Korean crap it will absolutely need to replace battery
why you need barometer in a phone are you a meteorologist? also thermometer and humidity sensor ok thermometer may be needed
60fps fhd is good but many people will feel any difference
120fps slow-mo is minus ok. cause i love taking slow-mo too
codec support will always update with OS that's not any minus
FLAC or what is there does it need any special hardware to be on a phone? if not a big deal
24 bit audio??? you want surround sound system on the go?
OTG big minus
and game controller may be not from PS3 but Xbox definitely YES
you don't like WP apps that's you problem not all of us
and nokia's sales are growing and nothing happens like a thunder in a milliseconds it needs time

Really? Last I checked, Apple's iOS was copying Android's features left and right.

No it does not mean or even try to imply that Nokia will sell more, it just means that over 40 % of the Phonearena readers or an undefined sub-group of readers will get Lumia 1520 over the other three. Why are you generalising here?

I agree with you about the software, the Note 3 has some intriguing features, while the WPs are mainly the same.

Well, indoors the note 3's screen looks punchier, but for outdoors, the Lumia 1520 seems better. Hope they do a test on it. Lumia 1520 has assertive display, useful for those who work or prefer outdoors. 1520 has 4 haac mic for audio recodring. Both have their own advantage. Some people like flexibility of os, some people prefer a little more restriction. I like both.

Again just hardware component. 4 HAAC mic or screen has nothing to do with what proto said.

What is in 1520 or HTC One Max that makes use of that giant 6-inch screen? 1520 is just like a over-sized 920/1020 with upgraded internals. Is it any different in terms of productivity/software features? Everything in terms of software is same like 920.

Yea, you get a 3rd row of tiles..LOL :)

"What is in 1520 or HTC One Max that makes use of that giant 6-inch screen?"

so you think apps will still be in 720p and only take up a small part of the screen leaving black borders around the apps because they cant take up the other part of the 1080p real estate? if you think that then it seems you are the uneducated one here. of course ALL the apps will be able to make use of the 1080p screen. it's like if you have a 480p dvd and your watching it through a 720p upconvert player. same idea. if you would have thought instead of just blindly typing you too could have figured this out. or am i giving you too much credit?

lemme guess Android had everything when it was 3 yrs old..? jeez..WP is still new and will improve for sure. It at least caught up in the specs front with Android. Did Android have Quad or Octa cores when it was 3 yrs old? Just like that its easy to bring silly arguments. Hardware wise Lumia 1520 is a beast of a phablet and Note 3 doesn't come close. But when it comes to software yea, the 2 yr lead Android had over WP shows. Big deal.
