Fire in Korea causes error messages on Samsung phones; service is now restored

If you had been receiving error messages on your Samsung branded handset, we know the reason why. The Samsung.com website had been knocked off of the internet due to a fire at the Samsung SDS building in Gwacheon, South Korea. The site was unavailable which led to error messages on most Samsung products, including smartphones, until this morning at 6:15am EST, when the site was put back up on the web and all services were restored.

The fire started Sunday afternoon (Korean time) on the fourth floor of the building, which contains the back-up data center for the Korean manufacturer. Some credit card related services were met with the error message. The company's main data center is located in Suwon and was not affected.

Korean media reports that there were no fatalities in the blaze. And as we said, things have returned to normal as far as Samsung.com is concerned. Looking at the video below, the result could have been much worse.
