Remember those five Lenovo phones that leaked in the spring, and were supposed to be announced at the MWC expo? Well, some of them weren't, some materialized later, but the ones we were most interested in are now official. At the time they were dubbed Lenovo Vibe P1 and P1 Pro, but their final titling ended up as P1 and P1m.

The P-series prefix usually denotes phones with huge battery packs and record-breaking battery lives, and the P1/P1m don't stray away from that concept. The larger Lenovo VIBE P1 "combines productivity and security in a sleek package" with a gigantic 5000 mAh battery that will provide you with up to 81 hours of battery life, or more than three days on a charge with normal usage. Given Lenovo's heritage with the P-series, we are inclined to believe that claim.

That's not all there is to the P1, though, as Lenovo has wrapped it in a metal-and-glass chassis, and managed to keep the size at the manageable 152.9 x 75.6 x 4.6-9.9mm (6.02 x 2.98 x 0.18-0.39 in.), though the phone is pretty heavy at 189g (6.67 ounces), which can be expected from a metal casing and a huge power pack. Other than that, the P1 is a midranger with a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS-LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 13 MP rear camera with PDAF, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, and up to 128GB microSD card. Lenovo has also included a fingerprint scanner and a rapid charger in the package.

The P1m is the smaller sibling, with a 5" HD display, 64-bit MediaTek MT6735P quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage plus a memory card slot, 8 MP camera, and a 4000 mAh battery. It sports an intriguing advanced nano-coating technology by P2i for protection against accidental splashes and spills, too, and is fairly compact for the battery size, at 141 x 71.8 x 9.3mm.

The metal Lenovo P1 and its 5000 mAh battery will be available in Platinum and Graphite Grey, while the polycarbonate P1m with its splash-resistant nanocoating comes in Onyx Black and Pearl White. Expect for both to appear later this year, with the P1m starting at the very affordable $159 for the full 4000 mAh experience.
