If this rumor is legit, you can expect outstanding battery life for the iPhone 18 Pro Max

When it comes to your smartphone, are you a power user? If you have customized your handset and have configured the software to your liking, use various multitasking options including split screens, and optimized your device, you probably are a power user. If you are always looking to push your phone to its full potential, you are a power user.
Power users and heavy users might use their phones for the same amount of time daily, but the difference is that the former are always tinkering with their phones to get the most out of them while the latter are often using their phones to swipe their social media feeds.
Keep in mind that not all smartphones are made for power users or heavy users. One of the specs that you need to look at is battery capacity since both power and heavy users are also on their handsets so much that they are tallying seven or more hours of screen time per day.
Power users and heavy users typically buy the phones with the largest battery capacities
With this in mind, these kinds of users are typically attracted to the top-of-the-line flagship model. That's because they usually have the largest battery capacity out of all the phones in a particular series. This is why I gravitate to the iPhone Pro Max (I've owned the 11 Pro Max and the 15 Pro Max) and the largest Pixel variants (I've owned the 2 XL and the 6 Pro).
For those of you who are thinking about purchasing the iPhone 18 Pro Max, battery capacity could be a major reason why. First, some history. While iPhone models usually perform well in battery tests, there was a time when iPhone users were considered "wallhuggers" who had to hang out near wall-mounted outlets to plug in their iPhone handsets.

Samsung's "Wall Huggers" ad aired in July 2014 when the iPhone 5s was the latest model. That ad showed iPhone users at an airport looking for outlets anywhere they could find one, including the airport bathrooms. The commercial showed off the Ultra Power Saving Mode and the removable battery on the Galaxy S5.

More than 12 years have come and gone since Samsung labeled iPhone users in the ad and as we already said, battery life has become one of the better iPhone features. The latest rumor for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max, to be unveiled this coming Wednesday, has the phone sporting battery capacity between 5,391 mAh and 5,567 mAh according to Tom's Guide. The higher figure is supposedly the battery capacity for the iPhone 18 Pro Max US model (eSIM only).

Right this second, three days before the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are officially introduced, the largest battery capacity of any iPhone model is the 5,088mAh that belongs to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If the aforementioned range is correct, the increase could range between 6% and 9% for the new model.
Apple continues to use lithium-ion batteries, as does Samsung and Google. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra sports a 5,000 mAh battery while the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL carries a 5,200 mAh battery. For years, Samsung and Google phones were powered by batteries with larger Milliamp hour (mAh) capacities than found on the competing iPhone model that year.
For example, in 2017, the iPhone X had the largest battery capacity on an iPhone model with a 2,716 mAh battery. That was lower than the 3,520 mAh battery that powered the Pixel 2 XL and the 3,500 mAh battery found inside the Galaxy S8+.
Apple was able to have the iPhone deliver adequate battery life because it designed optimizations into both the in-house processor and the operating system used on iPhone models. The way iOS manages background multitasking also allowed iPhone units to deliver battery life that was longer than you'd expect based on the battery capacity numbers.
Last year's iPhone Pro Max model did something never accomplished by an iPhone before
Last year was the first time that an iPhone Pro Max model had a larger battery capacity than the Galaxy S Ultra and Pixel Pro XL handsets. Our tests showed that the Galaxy S26 still outlasted the iPhone 17 Pro Max by seven minutes (7h 53 min compared to 7h 46 min).

Much longer battery life times were scored by devices like Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. With the use of a massive 9,210 mAh battery, the phone lasted 13h 32 min in our test. The top performing phones, all from Chinese manufacturers, were powered by Silicon-carbon batteries which are lighter and thinner. This allows phone manufacturers to use larger capacity cells
without running out of space inside the device.
We could see Samsung use Silicon-carbon batteries with the Galaxy S27 series scheduled for release next year. Google and Apple might also employ these batteries as soon as next year.
