Yet another company blatantly copies Apple's Liquid Glass UI

Honor is the next company to take a page out of Apple's Liquid Glass book.

You can say what you want about Apple, but its products are some of the most copied in the world. And this extends to the software as well. The latest MagicOS 11 teaser by Honor just proves this point, Android Headlines reports.

Honor teases MagicOS 11 UI

Honor is the next company to take a page out of Apple's Liquid Glass book. Honor teased the new Android 17-based UI in a series of videos on Weibo, and the resemblance is uncanny.

The videos show a couple of UI elements on the home screen, such as Honor's Magic Capsule, which is inspired by Apple's Dynamic Island.

The icons look transparent with a refractive quality to them, just like glass. The second video shows an incoming call and the UI element moving between the "accept" and "reject" buttons. The transition shows the element becoming liquid and very similar to what we're used to in iOS 26.

What do you think about Chinese brands copying Liquid Glass?

When will Honor phones get MagicOS 11?

Google started rolling out the first stable Android 17 version to Pixel devices on June 17. The other brands using Android as an OS normally have to conduct their own tests and tailor the OS to their devices.

Honor normally rolls out new OS releases toward the end of summer, so there's still time before we start seeing MagicOS 11 and this new liquid-glass-like interface in the wild.

Inspired versus copied

The line between the two can be vague. Chinese phone brands have been "inspired" by iOS for ages, and some companies are pushing it to extremes. Oppo and its ColorOS, for example, are heavily inspired by Apple's iOS.

The UI borrows heavily from Apple’s design book, featuring iOS-like control centers, settings menus, lock screen layouts, and even a Dynamic Island-style notification capsule, called "Fluid Cloud."

Honor is the latest "offender," but is it really copying, or just an acknowledgement that Apple is doing something right?
