Rumors about the iPad mini 8 have all but confirmed it will finally feature an OLED display, but they have also suggested it could miss on an equally important upgrade. However, just days before its potential premiere, it appears that we may get a pleasant surprise.

The next iPad mini may get a 120Hz display after all

There’s a chance that Apple may introduce a 120Hz OLED display to the upcoming iPad mini. According to Apple insider Mark Gurman, the company has been testing versions of the tablet with both a 60Hz and a 120Hz panel.

However, in the latest episode of his Power On podcast, Gurman shared that he didn’t know which option Apple has chosen. This still leaves some hope that the iPad mini will catch up with practically every other modern tablet.

The OLED iPad mini will come with several big upgrades

With the iPhone Duo launching October 23, and the launch of the HomeView, the new Apple TV 4K, and the HomePod mini 2, Apple is already having a very busy month. A recent report suggested that’s not all, and at the end of the month, we may see the long-rumored MacBook with an OLED touch screen, and the OLED iPad.

The new tablet is expected to pack the A20 Pro chipset from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, as well as a landscape front camera. The 8th generation iPad Mini is also rumored to get a redesigned speaker system and a design refresh that’ll make it water-resistant.

In less exciting rumors, the new model could be up to $200 more expensive than the current iPad mini (A17 Pro).

Naturally, most of the reactions to the potential price hikes on Reddit were negative. However, quite a few people commented that they would consider it if they get a better screen.

A 60Hz display is unacceptable in 2026

As much as I like the concept of the iPad mini, I wouldn’t even consider it without a 120Hz display in 2026. Even budget phones and tablets have moved past the 60Hz refresh rate, so I can only hope that Apple has taken the sensible decision this time.
