The iPhone Duo is now in full swing: users could barely wait almost two months since its announcement (at the start of September) to play with it. And starting today, the phone will reach the lucky ones who've pre-ordered Apple's first-ever foldable iPhone.
But next week, the iPhone Duo will get even better: it's reportedly getting Apple Pencil support.

9to5Mac reports that "next week" (there isn't a specific date mentioned, but next week is around the corner anyway) the iPhone Duo will get iOS 27.2 and with it—Apple Pencil support.
As Apple fans know, back at the "Surprise and Shine" unveiling event, the iPhone Duo was promised Apple Pencil support, but it was explicitly stated that it would come "later this year". This wasn't particularly uplifting, since it could very well mean the feature would be added on, say, December 22. But Apple Pencil support arriving next week is something much better.
How excited are you about the iPhone Duo?

The fine print
It's important to highlight that the iPhone Duo will support only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) model and no other Pencil models.
This means that Apple Pencil Pro or standard Apple Pencil owners will have to spend a bit more money to get the USB-C variant. This isn't ideal, of course, and I'd prefer if the iPhone Duo supported all Apple Pencil variants. But you can't win 'em all, right?

Why would I want a stylus?
You certainly don't have to have one; but it's better to have a feature and not use it than not have it when you need it.
Your finger is still king. But using a stylus on a foldable smartphone can be a great way to get more out of that big inner display. That's especially true when taking notes, sketching, editing documents or multitasking.
A stylus, generally speaking, offers more precision than your finger, which is useful when working with small UI elements… or making detailed edits. Yeah, trying to draw a mask in Lightroom on a microscopic area of a photo is close to impossible with a finger. I speak from personal experience.
Any drawbacks?
Well, there's the question of convenience: carrying a stylus around is one more thing to worry about, unless the phone has a dedicated slot for it. And the iPhone Duo hasn't got one.
I'd say a stylus can make a foldable more versatile, but it depends on how often you'll actually use it. If you'll use it one or two times per month, it's probably best not to spend any money on the stylus. But if you're an Apple Pencil (USB-C) owner already… well, enjoy your Pencil-supporting iPhone!
